Re: Miscellany
In the grand tradition of crazy old ladies who forgo fancy storeboughten haircuts in favor of diy jobs, I gave myself bangs.
And yes it has everything to do with the fact that I have been mesmerized by Zooey Deschaniel's rad bangs on Tin Man for the last three nights.

Re: Miscellany
This same person, when asked what she would tell her son if he questioned whether the Earth was flat or round, said she'd have to go look that up in the library, because she didn't know.

Re: Miscellany
You guys, I just remembered! I saw Santa Claus at the Kroger last week. He was doing the Salvation Army bell-ringing thing, which there's been somebody out there all month, but it hasn't been a Santa, just a regular person with a bell. But this other night, pretty late at night so the store was empty, there was an actual factual Santa out in front of the store, and there was a couple there with their kid and the kid sat on his lap and got a picture taken and presumably told him what he wanted for Christmas. And I was thinking this family knows what's up! Screw waiting in line at the mall.

Re: Miscellany
The last Salvation Army bellringer I saw was an unkempt, unshaven, mouth-breathing guy with thick glasses and a big booger hanging out of his nose. Of course I slipped a Krugerrand in his pot.

Re: Miscellany
I was at the mall last week and saw another child screaming out of terror, sitting on a Santa's lap. Cripes! A picture with Santa isn't that important is it?

Re: Miscellany
I dunno. We have a pic of my (now 14-years-old) niece at age 1 screaming and throwing a fit on Santa's lap. Her grandma blew it up to an 8x10 and put it in a pretty Santa's Workshop frame and displays it proudly every Christmas, much to my niece's total embarassment.

That was cold. The first one is probably in the 1940s when Bea was a medical technologist. The second pic of Bea was when she played Lucy Brown in an off-Broadway production of Threepenny Opera in 1954.

Re: Miscellany
Speaking of Daguerreotypes, here's a neat site with quite a few on them. It's in Dutch only, though.

Re: Miscellany
I had no idea she could even sing. Granted all I know of Bea Arthur is Golden Girls.

Re: Miscellany
She sang in the Golden Girls. Remember "I have to express how I feel. Miami has so much appeal"?

Re: Miscellany
I actually don't remember that. I wonder if I can find it on youtube.
And any Golden Girls reference is enough for me to break out my favorite Sophia icon.

Wow! I had no idea.
I've..never seen that episode before.
If you need me, I'll be off watching Golden Girls clips on youtube.
