I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
I tried not to cave to the trend pressure. Lord knows I tried. It's just so damn delicious I couldn't resist any longer and bought a bottle. Now I must make things with it. Many things. Last night I made a lentil and rice pilaf (okay it was originally a soup, but I lowballed the chicken broth and by the time it was done resting that shit was straight-up risotto) topped with a yin-yang swirl of sriracha and balsamic vinegar. It totally made the dish.
Tonight I'm thinking of going for a tuna salad with sriracha aioli. What next?

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
Sriracha aioli (or srirachanaise) is just generally a good topping. Good with French fries.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
Sriracha and tzatziki are perfect complements to each other on various things, like falafel or chicken and rice or whatever. Like, you can either use both as toppings on the same thing or use the tzatziki as salad dressing and then just put the sriracha on the other parts.
Also lol hipster.

You're the hipster. You are. With your in depth Thai-Greek fusion knowledge of sriracha and tzatziki and your moustaches.

You forgot Middle Eastern. That combo goes on Middle Eastern food.
In my defense, I only make 'fusion' food because I do not know how to make authentical kinds.
Also stop moustache shaming me.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
I'm pretty sure there's gotta be a Chopped or Iron Chef episode where they had to use Sriracha in a dessert and those are the only dishes I can think of where Sriracha doesn't automatically make everything better.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
The factory where sriracha is produced is considered one of the cleanest, top-shelf standards for health department inspections; there is an issue of Giant Robot Magazine where they tour the factory in California and everything is stainless steel and awesome. And I refuse to believe that hipsters have any sway over something that big and universal.
Also. Fuck tabasco sauce right in its watery, vinegary, ear canal.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
Yes. Fuck tabasco and that stupid tabasco heir I knew who got married on the island they grow the peppers on, and went down the aisle on flown in elephants.
Also fuck him for saying, "look ordinary people just like us," as we drove by a softball game in a public park in a low income part of town, I tore him a new one that day. Fuck his nepotistic self.
Siracha has been around before hipsters and will be around after them, they also make a damn fine Sambal, delicious on grilled chicken.
I use it to spice up my beans and rice fried with onion, or gallo pinto.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
I've probably had a squirt of Sriracha on my food once or twice but I never really thought about it until this thread. I bought a bottle when I grocery shopped today so hopefully I will soon join the cult.

Go get some pho, drusus. It should come with lime and Thai basil, possibly bean sprouts. But sriracha is a MUST.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
I cheat on sriracha with sambal (for those post-colonial dishes), harissa (for those North-African or Middle-Eastern ones) and this caribbean sauce with habaneros, which they call madame jenette here and in the islands, they sell at the local supermarket (for those dishes that might include beans and whatnot but not actual peppers for some reason, also for eggs).
Sriracha I mostly use for noodles.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
Sriracha is ok but it's not really hot enough for my taste.
Currently this is my go to hotsauce,
Although I did just find out there's a local store that carries Secret Aardvark sauce,

This and peppercorns are basically the only reason to go to trader joe's.

I'm not sure about the love for secret aardvark. I have friends who swear by it, but I wasn't that impressed.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
The heat is not the reason I heart sriracha. That's a bit of downside for me, in fact, since I have a wussy stomach. It's the taste I love.

The heat (or lack thereof) is the reason sriracha bores me.

Re: I Admit I Am Powerless Against Sriracha
It was late in the evening last night, I was making goulash and realized I was out of garlic.
Sriracha saved the day! Added an ineffable awesomeness to the already sweet and savory spices I was using.

I was in the store and saw sriracha chips. Being the curious type I bought them. I would not recommend this course of action.

I was at a restaurant in Indy on Saturday that had sriracha Caesar salad on the menu. You could try that.

Sriracha makes a good, low-sugar replacement for cocktail sauce on your shrimp.
