Of course the Jaws thing is getting all the attention, but I quote his lines from Happy Gilmore every day. IT STRUCK MY FOOT. And you can count on me meeting you in the parking lot.

I hope you're in your happy place now, Mr. Larson. :mourning:

Somehow I never realized she was Sister Tammy Jean on the no-budget, underrated sketch comedy show "Tush," way back when WTBS first invaded cable TV. Damn but she was funny.

Speaking of Designing Women, I had no idea Meshach Taylor also died this year. Found that out scrolling through the 65 people we lost in 2014 at the bottom of the page.

"Actor Meshach Taylor, 67, who was best known for playing Anthony Bouvier on the hit TV show "Designing Women," died on June 28, 2014."

That and Mannequin of course!

Farley Mowat died recently. I loved Never Cry Wolf, both the book and the movie.

I've done some weird things in studying animal populations, but I'm not sure that even I would have been willing to live on a diet of nothing but mice in order to test the hypothesis that a large carnivore could survive on an all-mouse diet for months at a time.

I had no idea that Jan Hooks voiced Manjula on the Simpsons until I saw the "in memory of" card at the end of last Sunday's ep.

Raphael Ravenscroft died last Sunday. He was the saxophone player on Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street.

Raphael always said he was a bit disappointed with the solo because he'd played it slightly flat.

Jack Bruce, bassist and vocalist for Cream, dies at age 71.

Of course, everyone remembers him for Cream, and IMO he was more important to their awesomeness than Eric Clapton. Clapton had the great guitar sound, but Bruce was the creative force. I think it's apparent when comparing the Cream catalog with Clapton's solo work, the latter of which I always found well-played but kinda boring.

He also did some great work with Robin Trower (it paled somewhat in comparison to the James Dewar era, but still great), and when Bill Ward put out his first solo album -- an unexpected, unappreciated masterpiece, btw -- two of the best tracks were the ones with Jack Bruce on vocal.

Light up the candles. Let there be peace tonight.

Tom Magliozzi of Car Talk, 77

I had been an irregular listener of Car Talk for about 20 years. Once I figured out podcasting I listened a little more. I enjoyed their humor and the occasional bit of car knowledge. But mostly the laughs.

Man, I love that show and I don't even like cars. As you say, the best part was just how damn entertaining the show was and how great they were together.

I still don't know anything about cars, but that's now why I'm gonna miss the show.

One amazing tidbit, Tom and Ray were really good bluegrass musicians. They did the music that opened and closed their shows.

Yeah, I care nothing for cars, but I liked Car Talk because Tom and Ray were so entertaining. Sometimes they'd have their Mom on for a Mother's Day show or some such, and it would be even more entertaining.
