Re: Brexit EU referendum polling stations.
Would this not be grounds for snap elections? I don't think they could get a vote through now - I don't think the current government has a brexit majority?

Re: Brexit EU referendum polling stations.
It might be grounds for a general election. But the Fixed Terms Parliament Act prevents the government from calling one until their term is over, without a vote of no confidence or other political maneuvering.
This farce of a government will shamble on for another day!
In other news, Boris Johnson has said Brexit will be a ' titanic success', which is very appropriate wording.

Yes, I think the "w" is short like the "oo" in "brook" rather than in "broom" and the stress is on the "i" — koom-GHEE-edh
You can hear a welshman pronouncing the name just once at the beginning of this short cycling video:

You could do what I did and post lots of relevant Tweets until someone gets pissed off enough to yell at an admin to add you to the HTML SHITLORD CLUB.

Re: Brexit EU referendum polling stations.
A Conservative MP recently demanded that the BBC play God Save The Queen at the end of each night's broadcasting "to mark our departure from the EU".
BBC2 was happy to oblige:

Theresa May outlines her plan for Brexit: keep all the benefits of EU membership, but without any accountability, responsibility, or share of the difficulties.
And they said there was no plan for Brexit! I bet all you naysayers are singing a different tune now, hey!

Re: Brexit EU referendum polling stations.
Since Theresa Maybe, I'm sorry, Theresa Mayhem, I'm sorry, Theresa May Not, whatever, made her speech today I've been thinking OK, she's going for hard ( no not really ) Brexit to appease the voting demographic, in order to keep the Conservative party in power. But at the same time, considering that the positions she has finally stated seem extreme enough to alienate lots of business leaders as well as (obviously) labour representatives and environmentalists, I've been thinking she's going for broke and actually wants to precipitate a vote of no confidence and a general election and/or a new referendum.
What actually happens will surely be the worst combination of the above possibilities.

Re: Brexit EU referendum polling stations.
Our Business Secretary - whose statements were no doubt prepared months in advance, also released this today:
Quote:
We have to call out bigotry and racism when we see it. We have to object when a line is crossed from legitimate debate to smears and abuse. We have to push back when people lazily reach for glib comparisons that belittle what happened … calling those we disagree with “Nazis” or claiming someone’s actions are “just like the Holocaust”.

Perfect timing.

Lords defeat government over rights of EU citizens in UK | Politics | The Guardian
Quote:
a demand by the House of Lords to guarantee the rights of EU citizens living in the UK within three months of article 50 being triggered.
Ministers were said to “disappointed” by a heavy defeat in which peers voted 358 to 256 in favour of amending the Brexit bill, but made clear that their position would not change on the issue.

Uh oh. The unelected second chamber defy the overwhelming mandate demanded by 34% of the voting age population. Cue "enemies of the people" headlines and calls for reform to give us "stronger" leadership.

Re: Brexit EU referendum polling stations.
Sincere question: Can we please have an unelected legislative body that actually looks out for the rights of our country's inhabitants, even when we make stupid mistakes at the ballot box? TIA.
