Re: History geekodrome
I recently became aware of this, and I think it is awesome and needs to be repeated at least once a decade in all countries in the world.

Re: History geekodrome
Here's a drawing of Roman (West) Nijmegen that I found in the regional paper yesterday.
The view is a bit weird for me as north is down on this picture. I live about near where that left wall is, near the second tower from the river I'd say. The river flows left to right on the pic, which is to the west in real life. The hill is a push moraine that was created by a glacier during the ice age. The Romans had some army camps up there as well and Charlemagne or his successors later built a castle there near the river.

Re: History geekodrome
Am I the only one who doesn't find it all that impressive that a researcher found a historical document in an archive, among similar items, right where it belonged?

Re: History geekodrome
Hey, Liv, you're probably better at old writing and spelling than I am. My coworker and I have been hurting our eyes trying to read this letter written by Henry V. I can get most of the small words, but many of the big ones baffle me.

Re: History geekodrome
I found this tid-bit about a family living 40 years isolated from the world rather interesting.

Interesting doesn't even begin to say it. It is an astonishing story of stubborn endurance.

Re: History geekodrome
I find myself in need of livius' professional guidance. Is a certain word pronounced ren A zance or ren eh zance or some other way?

Alternatively, you could just pronounce it "pineapple".

Re: History geekodrome
Most Merkins seem to pronounce it REN-uh-sahns or REN-eh-sahns. Most Brits I've heard say re-NAY-sahns.

Re: History geekodrome
That's we need an actual person with Italian upbringing (besides AML) to weigh in.
