Hey, does anyone here regularly edit Wikipedia? There's a super-egregious oversight* that I'd just fix my own self, but it would mean making a whole new entry, and it'd take me way longer to figure out the house style and the markup than it'd take a regular editor to just knock out a stub page. I could edit it and fill things out some probably.
* Daddy Bruce Randolph, who is a Denver icon, has a street and a school (the school has a page!) named after him, there are books and a documentary about him, so he's notable and it's seriously pretty fucked up there isn't at least some stub page about him yet.
I’m going to a hockey game tonight. I’m tired and I kind of don’t feel like it, but on the other hand it’s like a mile from my house, plus hey free hockey game. It’s New York Rangers at San Jose Sharks, and it’s military appreciation night, whatever that means. That’s not why the tickets were free.
Yesterday, before lab started, a couple of girls were chatting. Nothing surprising there. As I passed by them to get some supplies for the lab, I heard one of them say, "I don't see how it matters if he's older; even if he's 50 or so, I don't think that would be a problem." The other girl disagreed, saying that she didn't think it would be proper to date someone that much older than she was.
I have to admit that my first thought was to wonder if Dr. ______ had actually gone so far as to proposition a student. This is guy is constantly flattering all the pretty young girls and touching them, and he's just ... creepy. Even I thought he was creepy within the first few minutes of meeting him. Quite a few faculty members are convinced that he's trying his best to seduce every pretty young girl that allows him to get close to her. The general consensus amongst those of us in the Science faculty is that he's a lawsuit waiting to happen -- that sooner or later, he's going to get slapped with a sexual harassment lawsuit. Or worse. [No, he isn't a member of the Science faculty.]
Did I mention that he's married? Or that he constantly talks about how he married a woman who's much younger than himself and how much he loves pretty young women?
Yeah, like I said, creepy. But he hasn't done anything to draw official censure -- at least, not that any of us can prove.
Anyway, that was what I was thinking when I overheard these girls talking about potentially dating a much older man.
Shortly afterward, as I was again going past them to get some supplies, one of them addressed me. She cheerfully asked me, "Do you have any pictures of yourself when you were younger? I'd like to see one."
Ooookay. That was just a bit ... weird.

Oil painting? I'm thinking TLR would take them on a hike to a cave painting of him, complete with a detailed explanation of the pigments used and the fascinating fossils in the area.
*Pulls out woodblock carving*
Now I presume you've brought your ink?

There's a good chance he either knows exactly how much he can get away with, has some connection or power to keep people from saying too much, or both.
The creep at my high school was reasonably well known as a creep by the staff but also just happened to be the head of the teachers union so there wasn't much they could do.
It's probably just a coincidence, and I doubt she was trying to send any kind of message, but the young lady I mentioned earlier showed up in class this morning wearing a loose-fitting shirt that had ... several ... of the top buttons undone. Did I mention that she sits at the very front of the class?
Now I'll be the first to say that I certainly appreciate the sight of a beautiful young woman in a revealing outfit. But, unlike a certain colleague of mine, I am not in the habit of trying to look down my students' tops. I tend to walk around when I lecture, and of course, I was standing whereas she was sitting -- so I rather pointedly didn't look at her whenever I happened to come close.

My Favorite 11-Year-Old's response to being shown a photograph of her mother earlier this week, and informed that the photo was taken sometime in the 1980s: "They had color photos back in the 80s?".
