And fight dragons 'n' stuff.
Congrats. Although I am a bit puzzled. You are Irish and/or American, how come you get a knighthood (which I assume is British?)

I ordered my mug today. Hope to wart off unwanted visitors to my cubical. Some hot tea wouldn't hurt either.

Wart off? Hot tea? Planning to splash some on their papillomas? Does that work?

Re: Member News Discussion
Nothing as grandeuse as an actual knighthood, I'm afraid.
From the US Army's Armor Association website:
Quote:
In 1986 the United States Armor Association began an Awards Program to honor the very best of America's tankers and troopers. The Saint George award program provides the mounted force with a way to recognize outstanding performers
|
It's a completely arbitrary community award. It comes with a certificate, I should probably scan it, saying I'm a Knight of the Order. Of course, it has absolutely no legal significance, and doesn't even show up in my personnel folder (I don't think), but such awards are recognised on an unofficial basis amongst one's peers. For example, the Artillery Corps has the equivalent 'Order of St Barbara'. This is part of the rules of wear for the Order of St Maurice.
Quote:
Guidelines for Wearing the Medallion
Awards may be worn on all appropriate occasions where Infantrymen gather in the furtherance of customs and traditions in support of the Infantry, the Army and the Nation. Appropriate occasions include when the Dress/Mess uniform or civilian formal attire is worn, or on other occasions which the commander or awardee deems to be appropriate.
|
Of course, in my case, substitute 'Armoured Soldiers and Cavalrymen' for 'Infantrymen.' It is quite acceptable for an infantryman to wear his award at a tanker's gathering, and vice-versa. It's about the only exception I know of to 'if it's not in the regulations, you can't wear it on your uniform.' I've not seen a certificate for any other branch, I have a feeling that the whole 'Knight' thing is just because of the mounted-armour connection between the Knights of old and today's tankers and cavalry. Members of other orders are just called members, not knights, as far as I know.

There is actually nothing preventing Her Majesty from bestowing an honour upon non-Brits, and a number of Americans and Irish have received them. They convey no special status within the home country, but look good on the CV.

Yeah, we noticed that you have not posted for a while.
The flu sucks and I am so glad that you are feeling better. Losing a pet is no picnic either and work projects, yeah, I hear you man....

Of course you may. And thanks to all who posted here. I must admit to forgetting to check this thread. As I may have mentioned things have been quite busy again this semester, and yes the boys are growing up fast.
LS, I thought the same thing when I saw about yours (who's about 3 months older, right?).

Congrats on getting your taxes done, Javaman, but it's the living in a tent bit that worries me. What are your chances of getting internet time once you're out there?
