Nought wrong with Blondie.
I've been indulging in pure wickedness...
art blakey, p.j. jones, c. persnip, and elvin jones. followed by coltrane's song of the underground railroad...

Tito Puente - Take Five
It's as good an excorcism.
Maybe even better.

Re: One of those 'Wat'cha Listenin' To?' threads.
I'm listening to Ojos de Brujo's Bari.
I saw them on Later with Jools Holland and fell in love with their music and style.
Here's what Amazon.com's editorial review says about them:
Quote:
Some may complain that Ojos De Brujo is simply the latest group to pillage flamenco music, but they'd be missing the point. This Barcelona band grew up with the flamenco tradition while also devouring a steady diet of hip-hop, punk, funk, gypsy and Middle Eastern music, so the inclusion of rapping, turntables and funk grooves is a logical one for these upstarts. Marina "La Canillas" Abad doesn't have the range that a conservatory-trained singer might have, but she makes up for it with her vivid, socially conscious lyrics and staccato delivery, which can skitter into rapid-fire rapping that resonates surprisingly well with flamenco's chattering rhythms. Indeed, the group is unafraid to mix anything: "Naita" starts out as a traditional song before breaking into a techno finale. More graceful is the fusion on "Memorias Perdías," which meshes flamenco, gypsy and swing jazz. One of the most hotly anticipated releases of the spring, Bari has a punky spirit that will make it a pick on many year-end lists.

Bible Black - self titled album (whole thing)
It's kind of dirty, lo-fi, dark country. The solo album of one Brian Crook, of one of my fave NZ bands - The Renderers

Nagelfar - "Kapitel I: Der Frühling (Als die Tore sich öffnen...)"
German metal for the win!
...hell, make that pretty much the entire Nagelfar discography, since I've already gone once around it and I'm on it again.

Re: One of those 'Wat'cha Listenin' To?' threads.
Just watched the DVD of Standing In The Shadows Of Motown. The DVD I've been trying to watch for, like, ages, but couldn't because of regional differences between the DVD and my DVD player. Geography had a hold on me. Anyway, I'm pleased that issue is solved.
The Funk Brothers finally get some recognition, and it's a great DVD: the story's good, the music's good, the interviews are magic, and like The Buena Vista Social Club, it was great to see these old guys (though not as old as The Buena Vista Social Club guys, most of them) and their younger 'mentees' shine in the limelight. Heart warming and funky.
Dig it.

Beach Boys - Kokimo. God I hate this broker's hold music. It's worse than the instrumental Fleetwood Mac that the credit company uses.
