I was heating up a quiche in the oven and the cook time said 24 minutes but that's just gonna take too long. Now I have to go out and buy a burger or something.

As almost the whole country is on holiday now I got to park anywhere I wanted at work just now, but our office building is so new that the landscaping trees are not tall enough to provide any shade on any spot, so the car will be uncomfortably warm when I get into it this afternoon. This feels especially annoying after having being all cool and non-sweaty in the air conditioned office all day up until then.

Phew. What a relief. For a moment I thought you had Anxiety Involving Developing States. Like that some time in the future Burkina Faso might be able to afford to buy more Porsches than Texas, for instance.

Well that escalated quickly.

I think technically the first world version of that would be getting AIDS on a trip to Thailand to have sex with underage prostitutes, then having to pay life saving drug copays for next 40 or 50 years.

Even worse would be having the whole trip ruined after getting food posioning from the fish they pulled out of the Bang Pakong river running through Bangkok. Don't eat the "catch of the day" at a road side cart, that's for sure.

P.S. Everything in Bangkok sounds dirty.

My sister bought a muffin for us to share today. But then my other sister brought us an insanely decadent chocolate cake and a huge chocolate whoopie pie each. And at home I have a dozen mini lemon cupcakes that I got on special for a buck yesterday. I am drowning in yummy baked goods.

I went to move a load of laundry from the washer to the dryer, only to discover a load from last week already there.

I'm a relatively cheap bastard according to the family. Coupled with my income potential that means at any given time I'm sitting on a pile of money.

When my wife finds out, she does something stupid. Last time it was rebuild the nasty 12 year old kitchen. This time it was the false dicotomy of "should we move, or finish the basement". Of course the kids and dogs get behind her and I'm hopelessly out voted.

I found a house I wanted with 5 acres, a barn, tractor, and horse, that was reasonably priced and on the market over a year, but she vetoed it due to the homes nasty 15 year old kitchen. She found a pretty new house she wanted with a nice kitchen, fancy rooms, finished basement, a fancy patio, whole home electrical do-dads, and an office. It was next to a busy street so I vetoed.

So we took option 2 and finished the basement instead.

Now the work is almost done down there. But I'm still a cheap bastard, and refuse to pay anyone good money to "plug stuff in" so I've been unhooking, rehoooking, cable stringing, and generally making a wiring/electrical mess in every room of the house. Smart TV here, smart TV there, smart TV everywhere. All requiring LAN wiring, wireless connecting, piles of HDMI cables, speaker wires from here to the moon, reprogramming the universal remotes for new componets. I still need to move the wireless network to the basement and reconnect the currently wired computer and smart TV on the top floor somehow. I'm thinking a flux capacitor or 2 will do it. I've managed to get an applied honorary PhD in electro-magnetic field theories and wiring (I made that up but I'm printing a diploma for it using University of Phoenix letter head).

On Thursday, the guy comes from the cable company sometime between 1 and 5 pm to upgrade our cable boxes. Then I can set everything in stone, wrap cables, and tuck everything away before finializing the universal remote.

If you can get cancer from a magnetic field in your cell phone, well you won't last a movie from the magnetic field generated by the basement entertainment center.

I'm exhausted. I've not worked out this much with TV involved; even including when skinimax comes on at night.

I have a bad head cold, so I stayed home from work last night, and probably will again tonight. I could take Thursday night off too and still get paid the same because even though the company will not pay overtime for Paid Time Off, they will shift overtime to the last shift actually worked, which was Monday night.

Wait, that's not a problem at all. Except I'm using up PTO that I might need to go to Beynsign Stevelzu's fifth anniversary shindig in Vegas, baby.

My wife works for the gubberment, and for years they were able to roll over all sick leave and vacation. They stopped the sick leave, but keep doing it with vacation. Since the general public thinks gubberment people making more than minimum wage is a sucky thing, they suppliment their low pay (by industry standards) with vacation and holidays like MLKJr. day, president's day, and other obscure Tuesdays off.

I make more than my wife but she has like 6 weeks a year off compared to my 3 weeks of non carryover PTO/sick time. I get one week of vacation, a couple of days around holidays to travel, and use the rest up with misc stuff like puking in the toilet when I feel bad. She takes a week of vacation with me, a week by herself, 2 days before and after major holidays, and then carries over a couple of weeks at the end of the year. If she feels bad, she uses sick leave and saves her 6 weeks of vacation time.

I change out my screen saver and pretend I'm off on vacation with the family during the summers.

My house is filled with stuff in a very dysfunctional fashion.

The last storage container containing my stuff from my IL house arrived and was unloaded. Unfortunately, the new house has different spaces, and so I have a lot of stuff in places where I don't know how it'll all fit. It'll take me months to get organized.

I had to throw away the remainder of the bushel of sweet corn that I bought last month because it got moldy sitting there in the garage. I didn't have room for it in my 20 cubic foot Amana chest-type freezer because it's too full of meat.
