This is fascinating. During the same time period, the rate of higher education among those 25 and older also increased. The amount of funds spent on educating youth on STDs and contraception increased. The popularity of condoms increased significantly with the education campaigns surrounding HIV transmission in the 1980's. Urbanization also continued during this time, with fewer families living on farms or in rural conditions.

Also correlative: the birth rate decreased in the same time period as the number of roller rinks and the sale of shag carpeting decreased. The birth rate decreased while the popularity of video games and the number of televisions increased.

Correlation is fun. And not to be confused with causation.

I was listening to Neil Bortz this morning and he goes on and on about how stupid people go on to become teachers. He talked about how alot of teachers were in the bottom half of their graduating class. His answer, pull your kids out of public schools and put them in private schools.



Cuz evidently, private schools don't have teachers.

I'd agree, although my thought would be, if you don't want your kids exposed to stupid teachers, homeschool them.

However, I put my children in public schools because I want them exposed to the stupidity not only of (some, not all)-- teachers, but of the madness of the world in general. See, that way, if I don't shield them from it, they'll know the world is deranged and that they have the benefit of choosing the narrow gate.

Case in point. A teacher of my daughter's 8th grade social studies asked the class to give a 'thumbs up or thumbs down' to a question she said that there was 'no wrong answer to'. The question was, should/could a woman be president? My daughter was the only one to give a thumbs down, and of course the teacher didn't tell her she was wrong, only that she was stupid. Well in so many words. Something along the lines of--- I thought I taught you better than that.

It was one of the prouder moments I've had as a parent, to date. *wipes tear.
