“Qatar is surprised by the stance of some media outlets and TV channels which continued to publish and comment on the false statements, despite them having been denied,” an official statement said.
According to the disputed report, Sheikh Tamim had suggested that Mr Trump’s administration could be short lived because of problems at home, questioned the wisdom of increasing tension with Tehran and defended Hamas, Hizbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Iraq: US military admits failures to monitor over $1 billion worth of arms transfers | Amnesty International
Quote:
This audit provides a worrying insight into the US Army’s flawed – and potentially dangerous - system for controlling millions of dollars’ worth of arms transfers to a hugely volatile region,” said Patrick Wilcken, Amnesty International’s Arms Control and Human Rights Researcher.
“It makes for especially sobering reading given the long history of leakage of US arms to multiple armed groups committing atrocities in Iraq, including the armed group calling itself the Islamic State.”

American foreign policy seems to be, "as long as brown people are dying." I'm sure arms falling into the wrong hands is just an accident, like that time we gave weapons to the drug cartels under the promise they wouldn't bring the killing across the border.

It sounds like he may be arrested tomorrow (well, later today, now) - which, incidentally, is the day of the election. Notably, not even Fox News appears to be taking Gianforte's side.

Re: News Miscellany
Quist was always a long shot to win that election, and something like two-thirds of the votes had already been submitted by the time the assault story broke, because a lot of the state votes absentee or early. The Republicans' support nonetheless collapsed by double digits, which is in line with other special elections we've had this year. I'd have liked Gianforte to lose, but sadly, it was always a long shot. It is, however, incredibly fucked up that he didn't, because this is another norm in our politics that's basically been shattered now.
Mostly, though, I'm writing this post because of The Onion.

Take it easy, you guys. There's nothing in the Constitution that prohibits a violent sociopathic ragemonkey from serving in the House of Representatives.
Of course, us non-Montanans have a right of self-defense. In that regard, there's nothing in the Constitution that forbids the rest of us from expelling from the union a state in which the electorate opted (by a fairly comfortable margin, at that) to send a violent sociopathic ragemonkey to Congress.

Re: News Miscellany
At what point did we start celebrating tragedies?
Maybe in the 80's with Geldof, he made a shit ton of cash for himself celebrating tragedies.
Now every mass dead citizen horror due to government fail is a cash grab.

Quote:
The alleged suicide bomber, Salman Abedi, was part of an extremist group, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, that thrived in Manchester and was cultivated and used by MI5 for more than 20 years.
The LIFG is proscribed by Britain as a terrorist organisation which seeks a “hardline Islamic state” in Libya and “is part of the wider global Islamist extremist movement, as inspired by al-Qaida”.
The “smoking gun” is that when Theresa May was Home Secretary, LIFG jihadists were allowed to travel unhindered across Europe and encouraged to engage in “battle”: first to remove Mu’ammar Gadaffi in Libya, then to join al-Qaida affiliated groups in Syria.

Here's a thing from Dutch tv about the international solidarity between Dutch people in Groningen who have to deal with earthquakes because of the extraction of natural gas and the Sioux at Standing Rock. Some of it in English.

And if Istanbul does not, will New York get mad?
Credit where it's due on the due process but why they changed the actual press release I can't say.
