What an adorable baby girl. She looks like she might have some Persian in her with her fluff and small nose.
So has she given you the taste for a little kitteh of your own? That fight on your bed looked like pointy good times.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Luna's fur is also noticeably longer and fluffier than that of the average shorthair, so, yeah, there may be some Persian in her.
Cats have been in and around chez Hermitage for decades. For the past ten years I've been Mayhem's servant. She's quite the brat. Currently, there's also Tom. I can't find a photo of him just now. A tenant two doors down moved some years ago and left him behind. Tom is incredibly affectionate, utterly a mobile obstacle every time I leave or return home. Also totally scared of the two foundlings of the canine variety, Chloe and Ruby, so he won't come into the garden. He used to have the run of the house, but thought the lounge room was his toilet, so I don't let in any more. He gets fed in the driveway and cuddled on the front porch, and he sleeps underneath the rafters between the roof of the house and the roof covering the porch.
There were many more creatures in the past, feline, canine and other. If a suitable pretext pops up I might write about them, comedy, tragedy, ordinary domestic bliss and all.
Also, I totally fibbed about house rules. I like making up stories, to gild the lily for entertainment.

Not sure what to make of that comment. Yes, they were pretty much in the middle of the Hermitage, but the Hermitage is not a dive thank you.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Thursday night: Huh, that's a weird bump on Brandi's face. About the size of a dime. She must have been bitten by something. Keep an eye on it, we guess.
Friday morning: Huh, that bump is slightly larger. Keep an eye on it, I guess.
Friday after work: HOLY FUCKING FUCK THE ENTIRE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE DOG'S FACE IS SWOLLEN UP! Vet's closed. Fuck. Emergency vet? Probably a sting. OK, Benadryl. I have a stupid work call anyway, I'll be up to keep an eye on her in case she gets worse, we can call the normal vet in the morning.
Saturday morning: Vet is on vacation. The vet filling in for her says abscessed tooth. Antibiotics. Appointment to get it pulled by our regular vet.
Also Saturday morning: Regular vet comments on a picture of the dog SO posted on the Face Book, speculates abscessed tooth, suggests we bring her in to get it pulled. I dunno why she even needs the sub if she's going to doctor over the internet while she's on vacation. Also, she is awesome.
Moral of the story: The dog is trying to simultaneously kill me via worry and bankrupt me through vet bills.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Oh, hey, update. The dog got her tooth (and two others!) pulled Tuesday. Vet says her abscess was "impressive".
She's very stoic, so it's hard to tell how badly it bothers her, but I'm sure she appreciates the extra meds = extra treats they're hidden in, as well as the fact that we're soaking her food in chicken broth to soften it up for her for the next couple days.

The kittycat cold/plague seems to have run its course, missing Jake and Meep. They must have some extra hybrid vigor.

Oh, hey, you guys all know about the jerky treat poisonings, right?
It's pretty widespread, because tainted pet foods don't get discovered until things get pretty out of hand, and nobody actually knows the cause yet, so there haven't been any actual recalls.
But anybody with dogs, don't give them store bought jerky treats at all. Not just the named brands there. The last time there was that big melamine poisoning thing, it ended up affecting tons of different brands, and included lots of foods that weren't made in China.
I just wanted to make sure everyone here knows about that.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Tallulah savagely attacked the neighbor's dog yesterday, injuring it's eye. She was out on her long line and the other dog ran across the street to do something... harass, bark at, play, I don't know. Tallulah immediately attacked her. (I am always outside with Tally whether on a leash or long line.) The small fluffy dog didn't have a chance. Wound up with a bloody face, and a bite in the eye socket. Her owner apologized to me because she knew her dog was in the wrong, even as I apologized to her for Tallulah's behavior.
Seriously thinking about taking her back to the shelter. In my naiveté, I thought "Doesn't get along with other dogs" to mean she didn't like to interact with them. Not that she actively goes out of her way to injure them.
Problem is, she has demonstrated she is more than fine around people, even people that smell like some other dog. She's very smart, loves learning tricks, super cuddly. But she loses all of that when she sees another dog-I can barely even get her attention. When she hears dogs outside that alarm her-she will try barking; and if I stop her, she whines, whimpers and cries.
We are getting a privacy fence for the back yard in a couple of weeks, and I plan to run Tally ragged around the yard. In the hopes that exhausting her will takes some of the stress out of her. And with a lessening in stress, a greater ability to pay attention to me when dogs freak her out.
Took her to the vet last week for her yearly checkup, and vet said the missing lower incisors (she has only one) is due to some trauma, not that she was born that way. I know the bite scars on her legs were trauma, but I don't know if a dog caused them.
Anyway, feeling a bit distraught over this event.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
It's scary when dogs behave in ways we don't expect and don't understand. I never could 100% trust my Rottie around people, until he got to know them really well and even then some people just made him anxious...an anxious Rottie is a dangerous one. Just a few weeks ago Lana took a disliking to one of my friend's dogs, that was staying here. She has no problems with any other dogs, nor cats, the same friend's other dog is Lana's best bud...but he had always stayed here alone in the past. It never even occurred to me that she might get aggressive. But, I watched her follow and then snap at this dog for no reason at all, and she cut his face a tiny bit. I was horrified.
What I have done is simply mitigate and control the circumstances once I become aware of them. My rottie was put in the bedroom or outside in the fenced yard if anyone he didn't know was visiting. Lana went to my mom's for the day and half my friends dogs were here.
Your dog may be anxious and defensive due to a traumatic event, and you may need professional help with socialization.

I'd also like to add, that's one of the less than handful of pictures of my Flossy where her sisterbull isn't in the picture somewhere too.
Where's ZZ? It's not her special walks-n-treats Thursday!?
Oh wait, she's probably taking the picture. NEVERMIND.

She was, um, powdering her nose.
I didn't want to take her picture while her nose was all shiny.

Amazingly, though she had a full grown raccoon hanging off her face, she sustained zero wounds. Stupid dog.

Okay so that happened whenever ago, and last night I heard her going crazy on the screened porch so figure the motherfuckin' raccoon is back. I go out and she is going nuts, but I can't see what she is fussing at! She is completely oblivious to my hollerin as she is intent on getting whatever is behind the trash can. Suddenly she lunges, pulls back, snaps her head sideways so sharply I thought her neck broke, and out flies....a tiny baby corn snake now torn in half
If it was a King Cobra or 6 foot rattler I might have felt very grateful.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Dear Parents and or Guardians of Mr. Dante Alleghrrri,
I was out shopping for things and I accidentally found myself in a PetSmart store. Firstly, they had a little Kitty Korner to pet and adopt cats but there were no doge facilities. But besides that, my mind did wander to hey as long as I'm here I wonder if I can find something for my other pet nephews and nieces. I think I found some totally cute treat toys. Too many of them seem to be aimed at littler or at least less persistent doges. But because I believe you when you say Dante is doubley as clever as any regular doge, I stopped myself from purchasing them. Opting instead to tell youse guyse about them just in case you have tried them and he's already mastered them. I like the one specifically because of the word pickle. That's a damn funny word to just say. Pickle. And I like the other because it's Kong product and rare is the doge that can destroy those things.
