White House: Tell on you Neighbors Here
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/Facts...ubborn-Things/
Quote:
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

Re: White House: Tell on you Neighbors Here
You really think it is O.K. for the office of the president to request that citizens track and report on "casual conversation" about politics?

Care to tell us what Federal law or Constitutional provision precludes this?

Is that what you got from the quote in your OP? I take it to mean that they'd like to know what kind of misinformation about health care reform is out there so they can address it with actual information.

Yeah that. It's standard business practice, and it's standard political practice to know what rumors are out there against you so you can address it officially. Nothing sinister here.
Sorry Jerome, this is another non-starter

Re: White House: Tell on you Neighbors Here
Because the Bush campaign trying to turn everyone into spies looking for terrorism was just fine and dandy, cause, um, Bush was white and not a Muslim heathen.

Re: White House: Tell on you Neighbors Here
You all would have been OK with Bush asking for information on you and your "casual conversations"?

I did not vote for Bush.
The funny thing is that when I pointed out these sorts of things to conservatives under Bush; particularly the wire-tapping, they told me the same things you all are saying now.

"the same things"
No, they are not the same things.
Disinformation about health insurance reform =/= noticing your neighbor suspiciously browsing the Quran.

Bad little gnome!
Passing along an email is NOT equivalent to tapping a phone.
...as you yourself know.

Re: White House: Tell on you Neighbors Here
Especially since what they're interested in is the chain emails that say things like "This is STALIN'S HEALTH PLAN!!!!1!!"
I'm interested in correcting the misinformation there too.

I know, but the White House is interested in the passing along of "casual conversations".
You did notice that I linked the White House web site, yes?

Good Lord. It says the rumors propagate through casual conversation, which is a fact. The WH wants to know about the substance of the rumors, not the names and addresses of the casual conversants. Are you seriously this goddamn stupid?

Shell games much, Jerome? How about you drop the non-sequitors and tell us what law this breaks?

Now there is a deliberate misrepresentation of the responses you've gotten. It's called lying Jerome. You should refrain from it.

...and Bush was only wire-tapping the terrorists.
Yea, I know, it is good to spy on the wrong people for the right reasons. That is how we keep our freedom!

Re: White House: Tell on you Neighbors Here
Pray tell how you make this leap of logic from voluntarily forwarding chain emails or links to websites equating to spying on "casual conversations", as you so curiously and consistently put in quotation marks?
How exactly does asking for information from the general public equal wiretapping phones in gross violation of standing laws?
I'll give you this, though. When people who write up exaggerations and misinformation about government bills start mysteriously disappearing or being detained by the government or having their blogs and websites shut down by the government, then I'll be right there with you shouting about government oppression, etc.
