And salmiak chocolate, salmiak ice cream, salmiak booze, salmiak donuts...
I haven't lived here long enough to like salmiak.

Re: Miscellany
And "American" is ham, pineapple and blue cheese... I mean, I guess fair enough on the first two, but, uh...
They also use frutti (fruit) on its own to mean frutti di mare (seafood), which I guess is ok.
ETA: it seems quite possible, likely even, that "salmiakki" pizza is actually topped with "salamiak", which is a salami with little bits of salty licorice in it? Which I suppose makes it slightly more acceptable. But still...

Re: Miscellany
Probably between a quarter to a third of Finnish pizzas have pineapple in the mix, which is fine by me. Extra bonus is riling up the blood pressure of haters. Blue cheese is actually fine on pizza. Aurajuusto is pretty mild, I think.
It mentions the salmiac is in Turkinpippuri (Turkish pepper) form, which is a salmiakki candy. Which is confusing, as a lot of the pizzerias run by Turks here call chili peppers "turkinpippuri". But this is likely crushed hard candies sprinkled on top.
But don't make the mistake of thinking it is sweet. Don't. It tastes as you would expect ammonium chloride to taste.
Way to ruin some perfectly good chocolate:

I seem to remember about 10 out of 12 having ananas on at that one place.

That one place was pretty extreme. A bit like the spam sketch with pineapple.

I'm saving this info about pineapple in Finland for the next time some Yank loses their shit over a Hawaiian pizza in Canada.

Oh yeah, I like pineapple on pizza sometimes.
And Hawaiian pizza is definitely an American pizza, so I guess I'm ok with calling ham and pineapple "Americano".
It wasn't that I was saying that blue cheese on pizza is horrible, it's just that ham, pineapple and blue cheese is not at all typical. Gorgonzola is pretty common at nicer pizza places, but many pizza places don't offer blue cheese as a topping. But when they do, they don't put it with ham and pineapple.
It was more the labeling being inaccurate to call that Americano when it is definitely a Finnish invention. But it's probably fine?
(Aurajuusto is apparently marketed in the US as "midnight blue" cheese.)

Re: Miscellany
There is a thing I require which seems to have vanished from the internet.
It is a comic of a cat staring at a bizarre device of hovering, glowing tubes plugged into a wall socket, a piece of art provoked by the comment 'unplug the internet' or something like that.
Thank you for your consideration. This is important.

I did, we shopped quick (they had, like, 5 to choose from, not that time-consuming), I drove back here before them, posted that, they arrived and I installed the matriarch's shiny new laptop, they just left.

Tervaleijona and Sisu are a) not salmiak so therefore not brutal b) absolutely sublime and I am not sure how long I could find the will to live without them.

Some of those sound like they might be really good.
And my favorite pizza is pineapple and jalapeno.
I probably don't qualify for asylum, but if you guys ever need any extra old people, hit me up.

Re: Miscellany
I think spam would make an excellent pizza topping. With pineapple and or jalapenos.
I've had scrapple on pizza, so I'm prolly amenable to pressed meat scraps as a topping.

Re: Miscellany
Kimchi quesadillas are fine, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on pizza. I'd guess that it's the sauce that would be more likely to be a problem than the cheese...
