Uncle Tom works so well with the name Log Cabin Republicans that I'm ashamed I never thought of it before.

Oh yeah, this is the thread for general stuff...

Quote:
President Joyce Banda has said she wants Malawi to overturn its ban on homosexual acts - the first African country to do so since 1994.

Two Malawian men were sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2010 after saying they were getting married.

...

The BBC's Raphael Tenthani in the main city, Blantyre, says the president has the support of a majority of MPs and so should be able to get parliament to overturn the law.

However, he says it will be an unpopular move with many church leaders, as well as the wider population in this conservative country.

After a storm of international condemnation, Mr Mutharika did pardon the two Malawian men on "humanitarian grounds only" but said they had "committed a crime against our culture, against our religion, and against our laws".

Homosexual acts are illegal in most African countries.
BBC News - Malawi to overturn homosexual ban, Joyce Banda says

Auntie Tom, perhaps?

Trustee, maybe? Oops. Spoke too soon.

I do not have as many gay friends as I once did, the ones I do have are either catholic or baptists who claim that they are against gay marriage. Even the black one at work. I know it is bigoted to say so, but how can a gay black man be against civil rights for gays?

My attitude towards gays, even back when I was a Christian was always along the lines of "none of my business....more girls for me." I also found some of them helpful when I was choosing a wardrobe that attracted girls. On an idividiual basis, I find homosexuals to be just as likely as anyone else to be any adjective you can use
to describe a human.

With this exception: they seem to be less annoying than extreme believers in some exclusionary moral rules structure like Christianity. On the average, I mean. I find some wonderful and some despicable folks in every group.

Never heard of a bunch of homosexuals getting together to execute heretics, though.

Oh, darn. I just realized that I left out most of the people in the letter soup in the op.

In my limited experience with lesbians, I found them to be just as normal as any other woman who I can never sleep with (which is to say "somewhat more normal than the ones who might consider sleeping with me.") I never felt threatened by them, because in my small city, the only lesbians I meet are either so beautiful that I would have no chance even if they were straight, or so unattractive to me that it would never be an issue.

The sad part is that where I live, transgendered folks are literally putting themselves in danger just by expressing who they are. I mean real danger. I would like to think that tis town has gotten better since my friend willy was found lying dead in a ditch in the eighties, and the police didn't seem to care about whether they ever found the killer. It is just that I have no data to back it up. Today in Lafayette it is somewhat difficult to find a man in a dress unless the fellow is a middle aged comic or something. Gays, we got. Transsexuals, not so much. I guess they got tired of the institutionalized hatred. Cannot for a moment blame them.

In another setback to One Million Moms, the conservative Christian campaign has retreated from Facebook after a post about DC Comics’ reintroduction of Green Lantern Alan Scott as gay was inundated by comments largely supportive of the publisher’s decision.
...
Shortly afterward, the One Million Moms page disappeared from Facebook, certainly the initiative’s most valuable social media platform. The abrupt exodus was followed by a tweet announcing, unconvincingly, to Facebook users that, “OMM will be offline most of next week for Vacation Bible School!”
The screenshot is great.

Also somebody gives a fuck that the Green Lantern is gay, or something.

Yes, yes I can. My son told me the other day he wanted to marry a man. When I asked him how he came to that decision he said because he wanted to ride a motorcycle with his spouse in a sidecar, and a woman wouldn't be tough enough to be okay should they crash.

This led not to a discussion about gay marriage or homosexuality, because who cares the kid is 6, but to a discussion about the super toughness of ladies, including his own Mama!

No One Million Moms, you are the ones prompting a premature discussion about intolerance and bigotry. It's nothing to explain that some couples in love have one of each gender and others have two of the same gender...it is very hard to explain why people hate them for it.

oh my god how disgusting is that Oreo

Also that is a really dumb article written by an asshole. I didn't know that Kraft made some dumb Oreo ad because who gives a fuck, but apparently Facebook comments are sufficiently newsworthy to make it into the Post. Notice, too, the insufferable shit-eating tone.

I saw this one a few weeks ago and I was like "no way that's real" until I read deeper and saw it's in honor of Motor City pride, which made me :aww:

Chevrolet Volt 'Comes Out' In New Ad For Detroit's Motor City Gay Pride Celebration

I originally saw it on Takei's pinterest, only now it says it's blocked due to inappropriate content. I hope it's because of the shitty "pinvolve" facebook/pinterest integration app Takei uses and not because pinterest actually thinks that ad is inappropriate. My hopes aren't high, though.

Also, just in general, how wonderful it was to be in San Francisco during pride week. Even though we spent the actual weekend days away at the farm, it was still a nice vibe all week to see rainbow flags all over instead of the stars and bars.

I've found that Pinterest posts that disclaimer without even having a discerning human checking the link out. If it's been reported it's disclaimed, even if the reports are an attempt to censor political views and shit. I emailed them to bitch about it even.

In psychology, Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and have positive feelings towards their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, who essentially mistake a lack of abuse from their captors for an act of kindness.[1][2]
