Re: More blithe racism
at least i put my money where my mouth is...
i still come to this forum because there is interesting stuff here, and i have a couple of people i like and enjoy reading, and i have to admit that i enjoy trolling smart people when they act stupid.
i think this thread was supposed to be well-intentioned, but it really has become a big racist wank fest. it's just a bunch of white people using disparaging remarks about people not like them, but using it in a way they think makes them feel...well...superior.
nothing in this thread summed it up better than a bunch of white people thinking Serena Williams, abeit in an editorial cartoon, looks like an ape. what they don't get is that there is at least one person here who didn't see an ape at all. why did they?
well we went through that already, so let's move on...
now i don't know how much you people actively fight bigotry, but i'm doing that here. you don't see it the same way a redneck wouldn't see your points if you went and confronted them on their home turf (i've done that too, but dumb people don't make for good sport). however, if you did it maybe you would change at least one person's mind. maybe you could make one person see the error of their ways. maybe they would go on to change and then inspire others.
i don't think you are bad people, but you are what i say you are in this thread and this thread is just plain wrong. it should be stood up to the same way you stand up to people who dig white nationalists. that's how i see it and for that reason i will never stop in this thread. it's ok to call me names. let it out. i really am not hurt by it and contrary to what Ari says- i'm not defensive. i have already won. in this thread, i am always correct.
here's some Kanye to tide you over until i am back.

Re: More blithe racism
So a question then. Do you believe the best thing for us to do is to ignore racism, pretend it doesn't exist, to just let it slide on by?
For obviously to see racism is to be racist, thus if we see no racism, would that make us the least racist?
I mean, you've outright admitted you don't want to be educated, that you don't want your questions answered.
Is having questions but refusing to hear the answers make you the most educated of us all?
(And make no mistake, your questions are easily researchable and easily answerable.)

no.
i think the best thing you could do is take all you post here to what you see as a really bigotted site and share it there and talk it out.
Ari, you're so smug. you want to educate me? i don't have questions. you all are probably much more educated than i am, but in this here thread you're dumb.

Re: More blithe racism
Well I mean, my first bit of education is to point out that this ----> ? is a question mark, used to denote a sentence as a question. A type of punctuation you used multiple times in your last post and then said don't answer. I mean I know all the edgy Glen Beck kids like to use it as a way to make a statement without going so far as to make a real statement, but it doesn't work that well in writing, you really need the yelling and screaming and chalkboard to make that work.
But ok, so we shouldn't ignore racism, but we shouldn't point it out either, how might you propose we not ignore racism if we can't point it out?

(fully admit i started this round...heard that guy and right away thought of this thread)

Re: More blithe racism
Nah, not a grammar nazi, but grammar and writing are literally the only way we communicate on a forum, so some basic similarities in rules and styles makes sense.
So, point blank, do you want an answer to the questions you posed or not?

no.
there were no real questions. i went back and read to see what you were refering to...they all seemed rhetorical to me.
no questions.
i'm good.

Ah yes, when the going gets tough and complicated, ZEZOZE gets going. You always pop in and as soon as a discussion happens, as soon as you're challenge, pop back out again.
You seemingly want to call everyone here names, while not being challenged at all, just accepted as right. You seem to want everyone to just nod their head, "Oh yes, that Ze, he's smart, always right, maybe we are all racists and he's just so much better than us he's the only one that can see it, what a smart guy..." but when challenged it's always run away, run away, or at the very least a threat of running away, a manipulation tactic.
So sure, some people saw the representation of an ape, as you even mentioned, specifically *in an editorial cartoon* but not you, oh wise and powerful. But lets be fair here and mention what you saw... an accurate representation. You saw a proper drawing of a hulking Williams with her large stature and big lips in contrast to her petite, skinny, fair skinned, blonde haired opponent and thought, yeah that's a reasonable representation. You didn't see an ape, you saw the truth of the situation, that Williams should be represented in that manner, that that cartoon was how you saw Williams in contrast to her opponent. Afterall, it's not racist if it's true, right?
Ya know what really irritates me here, is that there's some interesting indepth race, language and perception discussions we could be having here, that might not go the way you think, but we never get past the basic 101 stuff without you panicking and throwing up your hands as soon as the conversation goes even the slightest not in the way you want. Some deeper analysis that could be had, if you weren't constantly trying to twist the knife on the one single point you thought of years ago and can't let go.

Graham Chapman: I think all righthtinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.
All: Yes, yes...
Graham Chapman: I'm certainly not! And I'm sick and tired of being told that I am.

Re: More blithe racism
please don't try to defend the ape thing.
and you are looking for stuff. i never even took notice of how her opponent was drawn until YOU folks pointed it out. as that character was a background figure, it was drawn with much less detail. had it been a male tennis player being spoofed for his behaviour he too would have been drawn in greater detail than his opponent.
it's all how you see it. you see it your way and i see it mine. you obviously think i am wrong and i obviously think the same of you. debating that particular cartoon is over. the ape comments showed exactly what i have been getting at here all along.
now...post some more blithe racism or give up on this because i have said what i said and there is no deeper i can go...natch.

Re: More blithe racism
i love Monty Python and i think Graham Chapman may have been my fav. I mean he is the main character in my fav MP movie: Life of Brian. it's a shame he had to die so young.

I like how you capitalized YOU as if we are clearly the ultimate racists for pointing out things to you.
I mean that she was drawn a petite blonde was mentioned in the same post the cartoon was posted in, and pointed out multiple times to you only a few posts after, and yet you still claim that you didn't see it, it's just about being 'drawn in greater detail' and are now suddenly making excuses for the cartoon itself, oh she was drawn that way because she was a 'background character' what new excuse are you going to make up exactly? Oh the cartoon was never meant to compare the two at all...? I guess being drawn in less detail changes hair colors as well.
Yes we do have different opinions on it, for example, you seem to think there is nothing wrong with how it represented Williams, going to far as to suggest that she is in fact a hulking person with big lips, despite the fact that she is the same size as her opponent.
Let's also get to your bad faith comments that if it can be shown to be racist you would "admit defeat" which seems an odd way of putting it, shouldn't the point be to get to the truth wherever it may lie? Instead you've decided that you are in a battle with us, which has now made you make excuse after excuse over a racist depiction of Williams just so that you can save face and not lose. Of course since her depiction is perfectly fine to you, you will never "admit defeat" because in the end you seem to think that recognizing something as racist makes someone racist, and not say, holding racist views about the big lips and hulking body that a black woman obviously has in comparison to her clearly blonde and petite opponent who you somehow didn't see even though it's mentioned in the very post you replied to.

Li'l Mikey is busy raising raising some other dude's children, which would be a deal killer for peacegirl. Her child-rearing days are long gone, and now she prefers sponging off taxpayers, day drinking, squabbling with strangers on the internet about dog eyes, and promoting some bizarre bastardization of a utopian tome about 1950s rape culture on steroids that was penned by deceased father.
It's a shame, really. They're both dumb as dog shit and walking embodiments of the Dunning-Kruger effect. I suspect they'd both need to be the "smart one" in any relationship, but that likely wouldn't be a problem since each would simply assume that s/he is in fact the "smart one."
In addition, they both have a marrow-deep dislike of the colored folk, but get all righteously indignant over any suggestion that they have a marrow-deep dislike of the colored folk.
Ah, well. Sometimes love does not find a way.

And they agree on the homos too. They are like poverty, hatred and war, but not in a negative way, and like Nazis, but only in that they have parades and flags and stuff.
