Last night I sat down and made one of the charts that I make for decisions like this, and it produced a couple of counterpoints.

1. I could spend this money to amortize my current debt a little bit faster. This isn't a huge deal, but I hate being in debt, so that's a thing.
2. I looked in to getting the company to pay for it, and that would be a long shot since it's not really career-focused. Also I would have to stay with the company for 18 months to avoid having to pay it back.
3. I would have to take the fucking GRE again. It's not so much the actual test that bothers me as it is the idea that I'll have to pay two hundred bucks to take a standardized test that I already took and fucking destroyed, to prove that I can succeed in a mediocre program when I already have an MA and a JD. My last GRE scores are now too old to use for this application. It's the principle that annoys me.
4. I kind of remembered how damn long it takes to write papers in French.

Now I am back to undecided, leaning towards no. The application deadline isn't until May, so I've got some time to decide. The website makes it sound like I can actually take some courses as a non-degree-seeking student (which would make them a little bit cheaper because of the way hours are counted) and then get degree credit for them after enrolling. I'm not quite sure how that would work, but that's one option.

When I was applying for my MS program, I had an actual professor suggest to my actual face that I apply for the MBA program as well and get both at the same time.

but really, most of the time I just come home and crash on the couch - and, more importantly, this becoming another one of those things that I start and then I'm not willing to walk away if I don't like it.

At first I read this as your being worried that coming home and crashing on the couch every night might become one of those things that you start then aren't willing to walk away from and I thought I found a potential soulmate.

Don't get your MBA. I would, in your shoes, pay off your debt so that you can quit your job at an opportune moment and go live in France/French speaking place to practice your French. Or take regular vacations to speak French, etc. Or just audit the classes instead of taking the GRE again which is stupid.

The combination of 1 and 3 would kill the idea for me. At least for this year or some other measure of time. I've never taken the GRE so I don't know how tedious it is let alone taking it twice in a short span, but I also hated doing some OSHA and such things every year for werk and I figure that's close enough for government efforts.
