Why would you question people who have more knowledge and insight on both the particular cartoonist and historical portrayals of blacks in media? These opinions, even possibly from people you may trust, can easily be found by a search.

I think the comic in question is unerringly tacky and insulting to Serena Williams. I suspect that the creator is not exactly coming from a place of neutrality on either Williams' gender or ethnicity, but it's not really up to me.

Otherwise, I think you're sealioning, like Kamilah pointed out.

Yeah, one generally encounters "he who smelt it dealt it" racism as a distraction tactic from disingenuous defenders, and not usually a very effective one. He's the first schmuck I've encountered who genuinely seems to think it's some sort of cunning insight that has allowed him to decode the Matrix, or whatever.

i don't know...a spear or a watermelon, maybe? not an exaggerated appearance of what a person already is. Serena Williams does have big lips. She is also very large. She is also black. She also has curly hair.

Hmmmmm.
Serena Williams doesn't really have big lips, and especially not pink big lips. She is 5' 9" 155lbs so larger than average, but then again her skinny drawn not actually blonde haired opponent is 5' 11" and 152lbs so about the same size.

So the editorialist chose to exaggerate racial stereotypical features of Serena while completely changing what her opponent looks like to emphasis those exaggerations. Interesting.

these two pictures do not connect except that they are both editorial cartoons.
