So what's the word on the street in regards this ambassador scandal, Stormy? Is it actually a major story there?

Nope, nobody really cares about that. It would probably be different if it were the ambassador of an important nation. But this ... :unnope:

I heard that all 20 or so Luxembourgers had to temporarily leave the country after an incident involving Siegfried and a rather large plate of beans. So I've heard.

Main news story this morning: Burger King opens it's first "restaurant" in Luxembourg. Yay. :blank:

Did they change the name to Grand Duke of Burger?

Seriously though... I would much rather see a restaurant here that promotes itself as being a representation of the finest cuisine of Luxembourg, than to see one of our mediocre fast food franchises there.

Interestingly, when I was in Iceland I saw a pizza joint named Texas. When I think of pizza, Texas is always the first thing that pops into my mind.

Don't get me started on the "Cajun" restaurant in South Africa. :rolls:

Sorry for the number of McDonaldeses, or the lack of Starbucks?

(Could be both, I guess.)

No, please get started on it! You were in the cape area afair? Was it a touristy restaurant? (Actually that's irrelevant. Everywhere here treats customers like tourists.)

Was it bad Cajun? Not Cajun at all?

It was in Wilderness and it was the only thing we liked about Wilderness, though the restaurant may not even be there anymore. It was rustic on the outside and inside was decorated with pictures of steamboats, and "New Orleans" wall paper. The menu, on the other hand, had very little that one would consider Cajun or Creole.

What we ordered was not even on the menu. It was a game platter that our Russian waitress recommended. It was VERY tasty, but it wasn't Cajun.

By the way, our travel agent set up the accommodations for us in Wilderness. We had to explain several times that we were not interested in touristy resort kind of things, but I guess she had to slip one in. She seemed to be very confused by our insistence in staying at De Hoop.

"But, it's rustic. It's where the locals go.", she would say.

"That's exactly what we want.", we would reply.

ETA: One more thing... We ate at an excellent Italian restaurant in Hermanus. We stayed there for the whales. No whales.

Actually the portions were not all that huge (at least not by American standards). Because of the smaller portions we decided to have dessert too and I'm glad we did. I had a wonderful Bailey's Irish Cream Cake, but Sonoma Bear's dessert was even better. He ordered Pistachio Ice Cream that was more like a giant cluster of pistachios held together by bit of ice cream.

It was also the place where I first had and fell in love with Amarula. Not to encourage alcohol consumption, but if you haven't had Amarula yet, you should try it. It has tones of vanilla, chocolate, and caramel with just a hint of fruit.
