Just read over the other threads. Interesting! One suggestion (from a noob, so caveat lector) is that lynching based on "You made an arbitrary accusation against X; you must be scum!" is probably a good way of killing the cop early in the game.
If you're the cop and you know somebody's mafia, you might have to grasp at straws a bit to get people looking hard at the scum. But you also don't want to make it obvious you have inside knowledge, or you'll get killed. Of course the scum all know this, so they too can make subtle but arbitrary accusations to get others thinking that maybe they're the cop.
I had an idea regarding the Who's Online situation. Instead of making everyone go into hidden mode, we could create a Mafia usergroup which has no Who's Online permissions whatsoever and just pop all the players into it.
The disadvantage of this is that players wouldn't ever be able to use WO during the duration of a game. The advantage is it ensures everyone can only detect in the game threads themselves.
Would admins still have the advantage, liv? On the one hand, I think it would be nice if the only available information is what is available in the game thread. I was worried that the concerns I had expressed in the Peanut Gallery thread would be construed as tells or worse yet, as me manipulating players outside of the game.
bey, I've been reading the werewolf thread. I'm definitely eager to play it too but I can't do two games at the same time and I'd like to try my hand at this game before trying WW out.
liv, I like that idea. I don't care about being unable to use WO, it's not a feature that I exactly use on a daily basis. It's better than having to go invisible for the duration of the game.
Can players be barred from reading the peanut gallery via usergroups?

I like liv's idea regarding the Mafia user group. I don't like to go invisible, normally, but I think the game works best if all the players are invisible to each other.

How does that work, exactly? Head in a paper sack? Men in Black style memory eraser? Glory hole?

cool, im just pimping the hell out of the ii ww game cuz they keep us segregated inthe games subforum and all.
plus i want some people from here to play. that way i will know more people in the game and i wont be the most inexperienced player.
Not being pushy or anything -- what's wrong with going hidden for a week? Are there disadvantages to Invisible mode that don't apply equally to the group option? (Sorry if this shows just how e-nept I am.)

Oh, man, that was the worst. I wanted to chat in th epeanut gallery, but I had to pretend I was a townie, so every time I posted there, it felt like I was illegally playing the game outside the game thread.

Well, the admins can see hidden people so everyone going into hidden mode gives admins an advantage. In the usergroup scenario, presumably its permissions would override my default ones so I would be as blind as the rest of y'all.
Don't think that doesn't freak me out, btw. I'm not really crazy about it, but it seems a little fairer to me as well as ensuring that both vm and myself remain visible to the membership, which is usually my preference as a matter of administrative principle.
