This morning I dreamed that a patron walked up to me, handed me a pen and said "Twenty". Then I woke up and it was exactly twenty minutes until I was supposed to get up. Unfortunately, I did not heed his warning as I fell back asleep for fifty minutes and had to rush to get ready.

But what about the pen, Janet? You're focusing on the "twenty" and ignoring what the pen might symbolise.

I think the pen symbolizes the fact that all the damn pens have been disappearing from the various service desks at the library. We don't know who the pen thief is, but we have a couple theories. One of the other librarians, who is far too fond of puns, has dubbed the culprit Rob-pen Hood.

I dreamt I was staying in a hotel. The room was comfortable enough, but due to bad design the other hotel guests had to walk through my room to get to the dining room and swimming pool. So when I was trying to sleep or take a bath or watch TV or whatever, there were always people walking through muttering, 'Sorry about this, but it's the only route to get where I want to be' or similar.

I considered complaining to the hotel staff1 but I found an unoccupied room further along the hotel corridor where the door had been left unlocked, so I just moved all my stuff into that room instead and said nothing. But then I accidentally left the tap running in the bathroom sink and as the sink overflow wasn't working I flooded that whole room to a depth of a couple of inches. I tried to dam the flow out under the room door to the hotel corridor using the bathroom towels and attempted to bail out the room through the window using the kettle and cups - but I decided it was useless so I just sneaked out of the hotel without paying.

Somehow I was able to retrospectively change the name and address I booked in with (I don't know how I'd do that in real life, but in the dream it was easy) so the hotel had no way of finding me to make me pay the bill. I don't know why I was staying in the hotel in the first place as, in the dream, it was only a short walk from the hotel back to my own house.

I don't remember much of anything. I was on the Enterprise (D) and we were trying to reconstruct some transporter files so we could figure out who was where when some thing had happened. I remember being frustrated because it's the damn future and why aren't there video recordings of everything that happens. When I woke up I thought a Star Trek themed Clue game wasn't a bad idea.

I dreamed I was on the game show Who Wants To Be a Millionaire hosted by Meredith Viera. The question before me was "William Boyd went by another name most of his adult life, what was that name?" I thought, "I know this, it's Hopalong Cassidy." Then the four answer choices were revealed, none of them was "Hopalong". But, "Binky" was choice number four. This was funny to me because in an episode of the TV show Psych, James Brolin's character, a Sheriff, called Detective Lassiter, the cop assigned to the two "psychics", "Binky". In the end of the episode, Lassiter said he would shoot the "psychics" if they called him Binky. Oh, and "Binky" was the correct answer in the dream, but not in real life. Or at least I don't think so.

There was an enclosed front porch all the way across the front of a white house in the wintry woods, furnished with antique tables, bookcases, Victrola, and an overstuffed sofa, floral print. In the center of the porch room sat a metallic orange motorcycle, Harley-Davidson cruiser-style bike.

Outside, in front, there was a parking area plowed, snow piled up to about five feet high. Inside, I was preparing for guests to arrive, straightening up, arranging furniture. In the process I knocked a small terrarium over, spilling the wet contents on the floor, a bunch of tadpoles flopping about and one dead green frog. I set about cleaning up the mess, disposing of the frog and its progeny when I heard the rattle of a diesel-sound approaching the house.

I looked outside and saw a long white Ford crew cab 4x4 pull up and park. My old friend Tyler from Wyoming and his wife Crystal got out and came into the porch area. Tyler was dressed in a tuxedo, and Crystal in a low cut black gown. I was dressed in sweat pants and a t-shirt. We exchanged pleasantries. Then the second guest arrived in a black Audi sedan, Robert Downy Jr. Except he wasn't RDJ, he was Tony Stark, Iron Man, and in a tux too.

Tony came in, excited, said he had something to show me. He said "Let's ride." Next thing we're riding down a dirt road in the dark on two motorcycles. We come upon a place where either a water line had ruptured or a spring had erupted beneath the road. Water was bubbling up in the roadway. We tried to go around, but got stuck in the mud. I wondered aloud what we were going to do. Tony said, "We'll go back to the house."

I said something about it being a long way back, wondered how long it would take. Tony said, "I don't know, it's not like I can fly. Oh, wait, yes I can." He was wearing the Iron Man rocket boots. He took off, grabbed me under the arms and we flew up over the trees, a town, a battleship in a harbor, and landed right in front of the white house. I thought my invention I was announcing that night seemed to be a little unimportant now that Tony had introduced me to flying boots.

What had I invented that I wanted to share? A self-sharpening pocketknife. Unfortunately, there's already a patent for such a thing. Maybe mine was an improvement on it, I don't know. But that wasn't the end of the dream. A gorgeous brunette walked into the porch, Tony addressed her by name, one which I forget, but she walked past him and over to me, handing me a phone, not a cellular phone, but a portable phone. She said "It's for you."

The voice on the phone was familiar. "This is Robert, from Gasco, I'm calling about this alarm." My first thought was about the water bubbling up out of the road earlier, but then I realized, this was a call about my work in gas control, it didn't fit into the dream at all. The dream faded and I woke up.

Binky is the name of Death's horse in the Discworld books.

Last night my parasomnia tried to make me sit up, turn on the light and clean the clothes off the floor around my bed. Only there weren't any clothes on the floor. After I resisted the urge long enough to come to, I yelled at my brain for trying to make me get up all the time. So, just an average night really.

I'm pretty sure that when you get mad at someone for something they did in a dream, it's because that dream was just a manifestation of some kind of extant anger or insecurity or something.

I am not defending that guy, BTW. Just need to make sure Matlock doesn't jump in about my longstanding grudge with the free enterprise windows.

I AM STILL MAD ABOUT THAT. I WILL BE MAD ABOUT THAT FOREVER.

Default Re: Weird Dream(s)

While many of my dreams could be put into the weird category I thought this one was interesting.

In the dream I am watching a virtual movie, where you are on a holodeck like thing but you mostly can't interact so it's like a 3d movie of sorts. There are still location changes and objects are 'real' but you are either inhabiting a secondary character or invisible to everyone and the story will still play out the same.

Anyway it's a superhero sci-fi movie about the battle between the Primemordials & Gudges (this is how it was spelled on the movie box). Both are ancient races, the Gudges are extremely powerful and long lived through a combination of magic and tech with the ability to either shapeshift or cast illusions to look like normal people but are 20-30ft tall humanoid creatures in normal form. They can die and slowly decay over billions of years with their oldest having their heads/torsos placed in robotic bodies that keep them alive. They see themselves as guardians of the natural order/disorder of things due to a belief they were created to keep the rest of the universe 'true' to its natural state. Which is why they hate the primemordials who they believe are interfering with this natural order.
These are ancient beings of unknown origins that have twice the human lifespan and superheroesque powers, when they die they are reincarnated into a new human like body and have to rediscover their abilities all over again. All the memories of their past lives are locked up in their head and through technomagic a set of special biomechanical primes can give access to them and help unlock their full power however they are hidden away, using Gudge technology to extend their life, so they aren't wiped out. A group of primes is tasked with searching out the reborn and getting them up to speed and hopefully taking them back to this central hub.

The Primemordials are the 'good guys' in the virtual movie and I followed a special one around as he is hunted by the Gudges and tracked by other Primemordials. He apparently had learned something important about whatever higher outside our universe force was behind their creation and this battle and did something stupid and got himself killed, locking the information away in his new body.

The especially weird thing about the dream is that I would occasionally pop in and out between the virtual movie and the real dream world, like I would hear someone call my name so I would pause and the scene would change to a living room with a TV like object, where I would talk for a bit, occasionally about how this is a B movie and I wonder if the funny spelling of Judges was to avoid lawsuits, etc. and then re-enter the movie right were I left off, including once mid sentence of some alien creature who was pretending to be a school administrator except his desk actually contained the lower half of his 'real' biomechanical body.

...While I often know that I'm dreaming in dreams and have lucid dreams, it was an interesting experience to know the world isn't 'real' and yet the reasons were different than "because it's a dream."

I dreamed that there were these things with green glowing faces on a spaceship going around stabbing people and turning them into more green glowing face people. If you killed one, their face would disappear, leaving a hollow dummy-like shell. Soon they started making machine guns which shot spines that turned people into glowing face people, but they couldn't actually aim worth a dick and were defeated. Someone explained that each one was a single giant brain cell.

That actually sounds extremely interesting. Make sure you get the movie rights for that one.

Last night in weird dream theater: A pair of mysteriously hooded superheroes investigate murders in a wax cake museum. One of the cakes turns out to be a REAL cake, known as 'Midnight Black' -- made of dark chocolate so dark it had gained malevolent sentience and telekinetic powers.
