Don't worry about it. I would appreciate having the threads merged, however, if one of the admins is listening.

Not sure where to dump this, so I'll put it here.

Money for Nothing: Elections in Two Quotes

This piece is a few months old, but I didn't see it when it was published. Charles Pierce argues against the inevitability of Hilary Clinton, saying it's bad for the party regardless of whether she even runs (which, as he correctly points out, she might not). One of my two favourite Senators, Bernie Sanders, is singled out for daring to engage on economic issues not just in the Northeast but in the South and elsewhere.

Hmmm, that clever, knowing style irritates me. Pierce seems to have a lot to say, but when you think about what it all adds up to, it doesn't amount to anything much.

I get that he doesn't like Clinton. I get that he thinks the US democratic process can't be trusted to deliver a democratic result. But he seems to think that "clearing the field" is some kind of electoral malpractice. Isn't it just something that political commentators say in situations like Clinton and the Dems find themselves?

I'm sorry, what? How do you know that either of Rafael "Ted" (false name) Cruz's parents were US citizens, either before or after he was born under the protection of a foreign monarch? Can you prove that?

Why can no one answer the straightforward question that I posed here some 18 months ago: Is Ted Cruz a Cuban citizen? It would be so simple to resolve this issue once and for all, but Rafael "Ted" (false name) Cruz hasn't done so. Why?

Since you mention it …

Donald Trump is a Ted Cruz Birther.

:yup:

Also, he's affronted that Cruz used the phrase "Make America great again" in his declaration that he's running for president. Trump seems to think he has copyright on that phrase. This entitled bag of shit with orange hair thinks he owns a phrase that has been endlessly used for decades in presidential races and in many other contexts.

:yup:

Let the 2016 G.O.P. Clown Show begin! :golfclap: The lulz promise to be endless.

THE THREE ASSHOLES: From left, President 41, President 43, and -- President 45?

ELECTION 2016

All of America Agrees: We Need Another Asshole Named Bush as President

FREETHOUGHT-FORUM (Internet News Service) -- All of America agrees.

We need another asshole named Bush as president.

If the 2016 presidential election were held today, Jeb Bush, asshole, would win 100 percent of the vote, an Internet News Service poll reveals.*

The asshole attracts unanimous support across all standard American voting groups: Racists, fuckwits, global-warming denialists, sociopaths, Christers, people who have self-congress with their own guns, Republicans, and Reagan Democrats who are too dim to vote for their own interests.

What unifies these disparate voting groups is the belief that a third President Bush will restore lulz to the White House.

"As a nation, we are famished for cheer," said Lois Chumpley, a burger server at a McDonald's franchise in Topeka, Kansas, who opposes a minimum wage increase that would help her because "it would also help niggers."

"There's nothing funny about Barack Hussein Obama," Chumpley pouted. "But remember how the first President Bush puked on the prime minister of Japan, and didn't recognize a supermarket checkout scanner or know the price of milk? Remember how the second President Bush made a video for a White House reporters' roast in which he crawled around on the Oval Office floor looking for Iraq's non-existent weapons of mass destruction, thereby making light of the plight of U.S. soldiers who were maimed and killed in the illicit war that he started, to say nothing of untold numbers of innocent Iraqis who were also killed? Ha, ha, that was funny! I love to laugh!"

Chumpley struggled to suppress her chortling. "You can't buy lulz like that," she said, wiping a tear of ecstasy from her eye and adding, "Would would you like fries with that? What about ketchup? Can you spare a dime? I can't pay my rent."

"I can't wait for new lulz from Bush III. I'd rather laugh than cry."

*The poll was conducted among three drunks in a bar, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 100 percentage points.

Tom Engelhardt argues that the 2016 election represents something wholly unseen before in American politics. He makes some excellent, albeit depressing, points.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Joke) says he may run for Prez in 2016, then says he won't, because Ted (not his real name) Cruz is a friend, but he's still thinking about forming an exploratory committee.

Talk about your over-inflated sense of self-worth. I wouldn't hire this guy to manage a Dairy Queen.

But, please, please run. Please.

Yeah, I agree. I guess the question is who do you think is 'waiting to see'?

I certainly think that Elizabeth Warren should stay out of the presidential race. As should Bernie Sanders. We need both of them in the Senate.

I don't want to see Hillary as the candiate, but I think that is what it is going to be. I'll be interested to see who throws their hat in the ring.

I'll never be satisfied, because what I want is a complete fantasy....a candidate not owned by 'vested' interests.

Quote:
As the negotiators meet in Lausanne, Switzerland, to try and ink an Iran deal, so much is happening in U.S. politics that you need a kaleidoscope to figure things out. Obama’s pivot away from Israel has created a vacuum inside U.S. politics, and everyone and his brother is rushing in to support Israel.

The New York Times reports that Israel has become the new litmus test inside the Republican Party. Certainly the presidentials are elbowing one another out of the way on the issue. Scott Walker says he’d kibosh an Iran deal if he becomes president; Jeb Bush throws his father’s best friend, Jim Baker, under the bus for criticizing Israel.

But the Dems aren’t far behind. It looks like Chuck Schumer is going to be the next minority leader of the Senate, if the retiring Harry Reid has his wish. And Chris Matthews does an entire segment on the Republicans fawning over Israel and another on Schumer’s elevation and doesn’t mention the Israel lobby once, let alone the pot of gold under Sheldon Adelson’s rainbow, awaiting the Republican candidate who does the most to support Israel.
As clock ticks in Switzerland, the Adelson primary heats up in the U.S. – Mondoweiss

Charlie Pierce on why the Iowa caucuses are a terrible tradition that needs to die as soon as possible. In particular, he points out that none of the GOP candidates have spoken out against the Indiana discrimination law, even the "moderate" ones, which he argues suggests that the prominence of the caucus causes "moderate" campaigns to die.

As far as Dems running I could get behind, Martin O'Malley seems pretty decent. He's no Warren or Sanders, but judging at least from what I know about him thus far I could vote for him without strong reservations. See RationalWiki's info.

I know me wishing it won't make it happen, but people need to stop asking Elizabeth Warren to run for president. She needs to stay exactly where she is so she can keep trying to get shit done. She is far more effective there than she will ever be as POTUS.
