...and the very process of joining the new chat group revealed that my mentor and close teammate, one of our most active agents and community leaders for years, loved and respected almost universally across faction lines, was maintaining a frog account for purposes of spying on the frog's private chat room.

BTW I lost another guardian last night. Made it to about 130 days. Westminster Cathedral Nave.
WESTMINSTER FUCKING CATHEDRAL IN THE HEART OF LONDON. OVER 4 MONTHS.
Gutted, relived and chuffed at the same time.

Damn frogs BAF'd us this weekend, so I found myself wandering around downtown Toccoa, GA at 2:00 AM. I was not amused!
We started a new chat group for all the mods of the two factions in ATL so we can (hopefully) improve relations. From what I hear the hostility isn't nearly as bad here as it is in other regions, but overall we're far from friendly with each other. X-fac meetups are rarely attended by more than a small handful of people, for instance.

I hope you keep up with agent stats so you can see my awesome.

Re: Ingress
I just posted this in our mod channel right before I left:
Quote:
I've been sliding toward retirement for a couple weeks, so I'm going to resign from my mod/admin positions now. I could give a lot of reasons but the two biggest are time constraints and disappointment with the systemic paranoia and hostility toward nearly _all_ frogs, and any smurf who doesn't conform to a particular style of play/interaction. I don't think it's any better on the other side so even if I didn't have time constraints I wouldn't consider flipping, but I will say that I'd be more motivated to make time for playing if I thought there was a chance the culture would improve; unfortunately I'm not optimistic about that. I will say that I think the mod team could (and should) lead by example and encourage a more positive environment, but only if that becomes a priority of this group. Right now I don't think it is.
Anyway, hopefully I'll still see y'all around in the trenches and maybe one day I'll volunteer again. Cheers!
|
I also withdrew from the Ingress panel at Dragon Con and I've played less than 5 hours in the past two weeks, so yeah, I think I'm mostly over it...for now?

Re: Ingress
Yeah, the paranoia is real! I spend a lot of time saying, "They're not out to get you, the live/work/play near you." I'm pretty lucky in that my area is mostly not too paranoid. Mostly because I have two or three smurfs that I communicate with regularly about issues.

Re: Ingress
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders and I'm amazed at how many other things I can do with my free time when I'm not spending it all playing Ingress. It helps a lot that I have a renewed interest in my work since attending a conference last week.

That's some good standbying.
BTW, I got my onyx guardian about a week ago, one from a park in London. I feel so much less weight on my shoulders now. Yet so much more badass.

I made double-onyx recharger!
Ok, it's not a real thing, but I did it.
I also blew my sojourner streak again 135 days this time, but just couldn't be assed to leave the house on Sunday

Do you know that I have actually felt guilt about not updating this thread? Okay, maybe not guilt, but something like anxiety about the data being out of date, anyway.

I made level 15 ages ago. I also have all the gold or better badges that I plan to ever get. That means that I have nothing to look forward to for several months, and yet I still entertain myself by counting my AP by millions. I just made 28 million last weekend. Also I have been doing some of the mission badge mosaics, which is fun and also really helps with the specops. I'm up to 332 missions.
Okay, boring updates out of the way. Guess what! bey made level 16 recently, and we threw him a dieciseiceñera at our house. Tons of food and booze and good friends, and our neighbor nemesis smurf came and put Resistance beacons on our home portals. Also we had a smurf piñata, because of course we would.

Re: Ingress
Awesome! I ruined Ingress in Oregon for a while. I'll pull up shots shortly, basically I went from gold Illuminator to Platinum in one night this weekend!

Re: Ingress
I swear I saw some new glyphs today.
I had two in a hack that I'd never seen before, one was a massive spiral, it may have even hit every node, I'm not sure. I tried my best and then waited to see what they were, but got the 'scanner communication error'
Then later I got another one I had never seen before, a very small one that was called 'NEW'. I don't know many of the actual glyph names because mine are all called things like left diamond, spaceship, bucket, etc. but I'm sure I've never seen that shape before.
Anyone else see some new glyphs?
Also, the game is crashing for me like 10 times an outing now I think it maybe crashed once a month, if that, until about 4 weeks ago. Have updated scanner a couple times since then, but still crashing like once every 5-10 mins now. Very frustrating. It could be my phone I guess, it's 3 years old.

Re: Ingress
of course reddit has the answer
I had the second and fourth ones in the 'scanner comm err' hack. The other one, that is called 'NEW' I guess isn't really new Maybe I've just never had it before.
Anyway, some people say they are not new glyphs just ones that were not used before yesterday. Since I never learned them all they're new to me
edit: lots of people offering their own shape-names for these glpyhs, but none as good as this guys:

Re: Ingress
I'm loving double AP. There's no way I'll make level 16 by the deadline (I did the math and I would have had to average 1 million AP per day, which while technically possible would have required my abandoning my jerb and my Thanksgiving plans), but I'm out playing the AP game more than I was before.
It took me 18 days to get from 27 million to 28 million. With double AP, it took only 5 days to get from there to 30 million.

Re: Ingress
I am super excited to go to Oakland for the anomaly! I have barely been playing actual Ingress, but the spreadsheet and organizing part I'm doing a fair bit of that. I get to boss people around this anomaly, apparently.
