Comedy Happy Birthday, freemonkey!

Just because you didn't put it in your profile here doesn't mean we don't know. Have a wonderful day.

I would just like to add that every time I see your name I honestly get a split second of excitement from the thought that someone's giving away a monkey I might get.

And I always get my wire cutters and stealth outfit out in order to break that monkey out of prison!

Wow, ain't you guys sweet. I had a nice day. My husband took me shopping, sorry to say I didn't find much to buy, even in the bookstores (but then my mon sent me a gift certificate to the bestest bookstore ever!.

Then he took me for a late lunch at a local waterfront eatery. We sat outside and had the company of a seagull. Did you that they salivate? That bird sat there eyeing our fries and drooling to beat the band. We took pity on it and shared.

Supposedly, I get a full body massage and cheesecake some time today, too.

Wow, fun birthday. :)

I knew it was Powell's even before I moused over it. I stumbled on that place when I was in Portland for a friends wedding last year (or the year before?) and was awestruck. It really is one of the seven wonders of America, methinks. :)

I've gotten stuff online from Powells. Must be great to actually go there.

I just saw it was your birthday yesterday - I hope the rest of your day was wonderful too! Did you get the full body massage and cheesecake? :)

By the way, my husband loves Powells (if the ones in Chicago are the same bookstore). We went to a second-hand bookstore when we were in England a couple of weeks ago but in comparison it was a great disappointment; it was focused on expensive collectors items rather than used books at bargain prices.

Hi Helen, I had no idea Powell's was in Chicago, it doesn't say so on the Portland website but does on the Chicago one. If you ever go to Portland, you must go there. Bring a list, because the sheer enormity of the place, coupled with book-lust, makes a person forget herself for awhile. There are several locations.

I got the cheesecake, but opted to save the massage for a day when he was better rested.

Interesting...

I'm leading a tour to Powell's City of Books for the upcoming national convention of Hostelling International.

I guess I'm just so used to it. It's been here all my adult life. It used to be "better" in that they had a better selection of used books, and thus cheap books. Nowadays, one has to search long and hard to find used copies, as most of their stuff is new.

If you know what you want, it's a great bookstore. But, if you're cruising for some inspiration, it's way too overwhelming. For that, I go to my favorite small bookstore in Portland, Annie Bloom's.

(Portland bookstores sell more books per capita than any other American city....given the near continuous cloud cover, I'm not really surprised.)

P.S. - Anybody who gives dinner out, full body massage, books and cheesecake for gifts (and then goes shopping with you)is deservant of all the sexual favors you can throw at him....
