Interesting...
I'm leading a tour to Powell's City of Books for the upcoming national convention of Hostelling International.
I guess I'm just so used to it. It's been here all my adult life. It used to be "better" in that they had a better selection of used books, and thus cheap books. Nowadays, one has to search long and hard to find used copies, as most of their stuff is new.
If you know what you want, it's a great bookstore. But, if you're cruising for some inspiration, it's way too overwhelming. For that, I go to my favorite small bookstore in Portland, Annie Bloom's.
(Portland bookstores sell more books per capita than any other American city....given the near continuous cloud cover, I'm not really surprised.)
