Default DSL Rocks!!

I never thought I'd hear myself say that. I've had DSL before (specifically Earthlink in Chicago) and it was comparable but not superior to the cable modem I had in Chicago or Michigan. However, the DSL here in Dallas kicks the shit out of the cable modem I had in Dana Point, California. According to the modem stats my uplink is 500k and down is 3000k. That's blazing fast speed, and for the first time since I created the new FF I can actually appreciate how fast our site is! I don't know what the deal is in So Cal, but both the Time Warner cable modem in San Diego and the Cox cable modem in Dana Point were much slower than this DSL here. I'm really happy to know that it hasn't been our site that's slow all this time, but my connection.

Anyway I'm pleased to report that I'm back online! :yup:

Shitbird!

I'm still on dialup at the cave...it took me like...four hours just to get this page to load so that I could post.

Grrrrrr....I live in the dark ages and now a tropical storm is aiming herself toward me...I see nothing but misery heading my way.

Revel in it, vm...revel in it.

No wonder Ronin does so good at the games, he can take a coffee break between each click of the mouse.

Sounds like the old 300baud modem I used to use. Newsgroups were fun then. Ah, the old days (THEY SUCKED! :D)

I'm sorry Ronin! :(

I feel for you, I do really. And for JoeP and anyone else who's stuck on dial-up. I won't soon forget how privileged I am after this last week back in the stone ages.

I think it helps too that my roomate opted for the 3mb downstream when he ordered it. I assume it cost a bit more than typical, but it really is blazing fast.

Thanks. :)

I have to admit, though, there's probably very little chance I'd be 90% unpacked and moved in here if I'd had this DSL since day one. Not having the 'net to distract me did wonders for my productivity around the house. :)

I hope having it now doesn't disable my job search. Ew. I said job search. :(

DSL certainly does rock. Always online, telephone works, quick speeds, and all that loveliness. I've had mine since April, and WinMX has taken a thrashing since then. I can even watch and listen to streaming media now. :D

I love it.

Do you have to sign up a long term contract for DSL? 24 months here. That puts me off - risk of the service degrading, and what happens if I move house?

Grump grump grump. (That needed words not smilies)

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. If I did have to, though, I would. In fact I'd sign a lifetime contract if I had to. I'd sign away my first born and my soul, in that order or vice versa. I'd trade 10 or more years off the end of my life for DSL. Hell, I'd trade 10 off the beginning. Take my childhood memories, just give me that high speed Internet access. You simply can't lose. Yes, the connection might degrade and the price might go up. But some high speed access at any cost is better than none for free. You need this, Joe. Trust me.

I see a twelve-step program in your future.

Just tell me who provided the sign code so I can claim that they rule.

Sign code: When you absolutely, positively need a smilie that doesn't exist yet.

The usual method: somebody clever mentions it in passing on a vb site and I whine until vm installs it.

Amen, sister. And now you've reminded me that I was going to whine until vm expanded it to include several sign options (smile, angry, sad etc.).

Pardon me while I dash off to the hidden software forum a mo. :charge:

Put down the DSL. Step away from the net. We can help you. Accept analogue into your heart as your personal saviour and the DSL will no longer have power over you.

Or else you have corrupted me to the Dark Side Lure.
