Of the post-Disney franchisements: Rogue One is my pick of the lot so far. I'm somewhat split about That Scene that Everbody Loves. I love the action of it but it feels a bit out of place from the story the rest of the movie was trying to tell. Nevermind the almost uncanny valley of the cgi cameo. But the rest of the movie was mostly solid for me.

The Last Jedi is next on my list. Two things kinda drag it down for me. They should have reworked that third subplot - the one with Finn and Rose. I thought it might have worked better if there were dueling spies - one on the Republic ship sending coded messages and one on the FO ship being goodly nefarious on that end. But that messes with the theme of a Rising Hope (a New Last Hope?) that would need to be rejiggered as well.

And then there's The Force Awakens. A lot of fun meeting new characters and revisiting that galaxy far, far away. That lot of fun goes a long way to cover the sins of the de4rivitivity of the rest of the movie.

Even in the Legends canon the name Rogue Squadron was indicative of that rag-tag bunch of ne'er do wells who somehow work together. I read the books, at least the ones available to me in the 90s, and enjoyed them. So, I was p much a shoo in for that kind of set up.

I'm more in for the Rey/Finn thing than Rose/Finn - but that's just me. We really haven't seen quite enough of all of them to really judge one way or another.

I found the Rey/Finn chemistry about as inspiring as Splenda in decaf.

I thought everyone was more excited for Poe/Finn.

Honestly, Finn seems to have more chemistry with Poe than he does with either Rey or Rose.

Rogue One is definitely my favorite of the current gen of SW films. The pacing, the new characters and the plot were all just fine by me.

As for *that* scene, I squeed like any fanboy, but I could have done without it. I acknowledge it as fan service.

I do like how it made Princess Leia even more badass, though. Vader was seconds away from capturing her ship, he just plowed through a ton of her guys to get to her, he sees her ship leave Scarif system with his very eyes.

And when confronted, she simply says "Diplomatic mission, bitch"

Yeah, Rogue One is the only one of the new Star Wars films that I actually enjoyed. All the others have struck me as ... "meh" ... at best.

Of course, Rogue One is nearly worth the price of admission for that final Vader scene alone.

Oh ffs.

Why were episodes 4, 5 and 6 produced before episodes 1, 2 and 3?
