Re: Codenames
Lots of space/astronomy words in the grid but the best two for Sol, I think, are Sun and Star.

Re: Codenames
For reference...
| | Codenames 4 | | |
---|
Constellation | Marble | Sandals | Quartz | Astronaut | Sneakers | Gravity | Star | Haste | Sandwich | Orbit | Sun | Salami | Space | Moon | Crunch | Shale | Galaxy | Slate | Sausage | Snack | Rush | Nibble | Hurry | Rock |
Shengxiao is the Chinese zodiac, so I think constellation is a safe bet for the first one. I don't see anything that makes the Chinese aspect particularly relevant (no animals from the Chinese zodiac or specifically Chinese food or places or things). It would seem probably that we should focus on star type things, rather than other space-y things like "orbit", "space" or "astronaut". Which would leave galaxy or moon, and I'd lean towards galaxy unless there's some lunar aspect to Chinese zodiac maybe.
(By the way, Megatron, you could have used "star" as the clue now that it's already been guessed, if it is "constellation" and "galaxy" we're interested in.)

This seems a bit shady.
If you want me to guess X, use clue Y...

Re: Codenames
All I meant to indicate is that you can use "star" as a clue now that it's off the board.
I don't see what's shady about suggesting that "star" would be a better clue for "constellation" and "galaxy" than "shengxiao" or "zodiac". Of course, it might not be that he's going after "galaxy" at all, and we're supposed to guess something else. The fact that there are better clues for those, of course, could indicate that I'm wrong about "galaxy".
Or is it just that I addressed it to Megatron rather than my other teammates?
Either way, pretty sure my teammates will agree that "constellation" is the best first guess, and then you're whining that we'd, what? Guess "galaxy" anyway and then there's no help there? Or guess "moon" and on that basis be pretty certain whether "galaxy" is correct or not regardless of what Megatron's next clue is (or both "moon" and "galaxy" are red, then he'd waste a turn giving "star" as a clue just to capture "galaxy"?).
Not clear to me how we're supposed to parlay this into any sort of significant advantage in this case.
I mean, if I were to give a whole pair-wise grid of all the words showing what words he could use to get me to guess which words, that would be an issue. Except that you'd also see it and be able to use it to aid your own team, since I haven't had any private communication with Megatron.

Re: Codenames
But the Chinese zodiac is not associated with constellations, is it? If it was just Zodiac I would say constellations and orbit since the zodiac is the constellations that appear on the ecliptic where the sun and planets appear in the night sky, but that is not the case for the Chinese Zodiac.
As to what erimir said I think that was not a problem. But Meg is not supposed to post anything in the thread except for his clue. So knock of the extraneous chatter Megatron!

Re: Codenames
The Chinese zodiac does have a constellation component like the European zodiac. I assume that Megatron looked it up on Wikipedia to find the Chinese word for it.
Even so, I'm not sure what else to do with the clue if constellation is out. The movement of the constellations in the sky is related to orbits, of course. But there is also some reference to lunar months on that Wikipedia page, so *shrug*
Maybe it's those "mind games" Megatron was talking about.

Re: Codenames
From wiki.
Chinese astrology has a close relation with Chinese philosophy (theory of the three harmony: heaven, earth, and water), and uses the principles of yin and yang and concepts that are not found in Western astrology, such as the wu xing teachings, the 10 Celestial stems, the 12 Earthly Branches, the lunisolar calendar (moon calendar and sun calendar), and the time calculation after year, month, day, and shichen (時辰).
So they do use a moon calendar. I'm not feeling galaxy, but I like constellation.
