I was recently looking at my geneology. I may be part Delaware (Lenape). My grandson definitely is, his bio-dad is member of the Delaware tribe.

Fucking hell. It's like they didn't watch the video. I just can't even.
Also in the news: DuPont and Dow Talk Merger
Quote:
The Wall Street Journal is reporting Du Pont and Dow are in "advanced talks" aimed at a merger.
The Journal cites unnamed sources saying the proposed deal is part of a surge of such moves in the agriculture industry, and would cap off the strongest-ever year for takeovers.
DuPont and Dow, each with a market capitalization of about 60 billion dollars, could announce the merger in the next several days, but the sources also warn that no deal has been signed at this point and the talks could fall apart.
|
In 1999 I joined a company called Rodel. They were bought up by Rohm & Haas in the early aughts. In 2009 R&H was bought up by Dow. This could be potentially really huge big large news for little Delaware.

Okay, raise your hand if you already knew Delaware had (had being the key word here) a nutria population. Oh, put it down, you did not! Well, I didn't anyway. I thought about putting this in my hydrology thread, but no one reads that shit.
I didn't know nutrias kill marshes. Seriously, I didn't know.
Also, English nutrias? No way. They have to be a lie.

For those of us who still like to watch cartoons, I found another (if dumb) reason to want to watch the Steven Universe. (Besides the great characters and identity representation going on.) Fast forward to 1:02 or so.

One Dead After Prison Hostage Standoff
Quote:
One correction officer is dead after a 19-hour standoff at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.
Both Delaware and Maryland State Police and other officials broke into C building at James T. Vaughn around 5:00 a.m. Thursday using a backhoe.
They rescued a female counselor in good health, but found 47-year-old Sgt. Steven Floyd unresponsive. The 16-year-veteran officer was later pronounced dead. It's unclear how Floyd died.
Inmates released two other corrections officers on Wednesday. They have been examined and released from the hospital.
State officials turned building water pipes back on as part of negotiations, only to have inmates use that against them as they tried to gain entrance Thursday morning.
|
According to a source I can't track down yet:
Quote:
Specific demands cited by hostage takers are "Education, we want education first and foremost. We want a rehabilitation program that works for everybody. We want the money to be allocated so we can know exactly what is going on in the prison, the budget."
|
But of course the news wants to go with ""Donald Trump. Everything that he did. All the things that he’s doing now. We know that the institution is going to change for the worse. We know the institution is going to change for the worse."

Conrad "Redskins" vote to change their mascot!
Quote:
The Conrad Redskins will be known as the "Conrad Red Wolves” following a student vote to replace the controversial nickname.
Conrad Schools of Sciences shed the mascot and logo last June after the Red Clay Board of Education voted to replace the old nickname after months of controversy and a recommendation from the Red Clay Mascot Committee.
T-shirts with a preliminary logo were given to students in celebration of the change Wednesday, though a final version won't be released until July and it could change again.
"I would say without question, it's a positive step for the school and the entire school community," Conrad Principal Mark Pruitt said.
|
Now if only we can get the adults down south to do the right thing as well.

Wolves are cooler than people as mascots anyway. Who the fuck wants to keep some dude when you can have a wolf? I'll never understand these people.

Re: Hooray. We're In ... Delaware?
A couple of weeks back there was a prison hostage situation. It lasted almost a whole day and it didn't end very well. It's so not well, that there's still fallout happening.
Quote:
Amid the fallout from the deadly 18-hour standoff at Vaughn Correctional Center, 29 employees from the prison's contracted medical provider have resigned, according to state officials.
Eight registered nurses, 11 licensed practical nurses and three nurse practitioners have given their resignations to Connections Community Support Programs Inc., said Jayme Gravell, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Correction.
Seven other employees, including two clinicians, a health services administrator, a dental assistant, a psych tech, a certified nursing assistant and a certified medical assistant also have quit, she said.
Further details on their resignations were not released.
Last week, The News Journal reported eight correctional officers resigned in the days that followed the standoff, with three leaving immediately, Gravell said.
Another six officers have filed paperwork for early retirement in 2017, and one of those has already left the job, she said. Two additional officers who work at other DOC prisons have announced their retirement since the standoff.

As unofficial ambassador and liaison between Delaware and Luxembourg, I can safely say that with an rogue iceberg that size no one is safe. It's time for us all to come together and use our boar technologies to defeat this common enemy.

Re: Hooray. We're In ... Delaware?
As though living in Wilmington, DE (MURDER CAPITAL CITY) wasn't bad enough, apparently simply living in Delaware is bad for one's health.
Quote:
Because Delaware is such a small state, its numbers are extremely low. This makes it difficult to compare progress on yearly data. Instead, the state usually looks at trends on a five-year average, she said.
"We're not a very healthy state and we're not able to get out of the bottom half in a lot of indicators," she said. "We have made some great progress."
But Delaware has the second largest disparity in health status. The report defines high health status as the percentage of people reporting their health as very good or excellent. In the First State, 34.7 percent more of the educated said their health was good, and the report calls that number the health disparity.
The report also highlighted the national concern of infant mortality, Butler said. The U.S. rate of infant mortality has been consistently higher than most developed countries.
The state was ranked 48th and 44th in infant mortality and low birth weight.
In Delaware, there are 7.9 infant deaths per 1,000 lives. Nationally, the leading causes of infant mortality are congenital malformation, low birth weight and preterm birth and maternal complications, the report said.
One of the most severe increases highlighted in the report was the number of drug-related deaths in Delaware. In the past 10 years, the state has seen a 147 percent increase, going from 8.1 to 20 deaths per 100,000 people.
|
On a personal note: I'd rate my health as fair, but improving. A year ago I would "optimistically" lie and call it poor despite knowing for sure I was on the worst end of morbidly obese.
