So I got my better lens back from my sister, but it's still a bit small for the solar filter, so I'll have to see if it works with the open hood. I'm doubtful, because the solar filter is reflective, and I'll get a ton of ambient light noise.

I still have 3 weeks to practice, and a new hood is cheap. I'm also debating renting a telephoto lens.
