I don’t read (books) much. I think the only other one I read in that time period was Dan Browns’s Origin. I love me some Singularity! :borg:

Today, I was SO LAZY that I used my fingernail to tighten up a loose screw so I wouldn't have to walk three or four yards to get a screwdriver. I got a splinter doing it, too.

I found a lost kid yesterday, about 4 - tiny. Non verbal, or at least would not speak to me. Saved him from trying to cross a busy road - he was up and down on the curb with traffic whizzing past.

Stayed with him for a good 20 minutes, played games with rocks and sticks to keep him occupied. Waited for Police to come - but while I was waiting 911 called me back and told me his name. and that his family had reported him missing from a local park, so it was pretty cool. :pleased:

Told the Mor-man when I got home, he said "but you hate kids". :brooding:

The older I get the more I enjoy intentionally trolling my teenager while pretending to be, like, really old and clueless. Bonus points if she has friends around.

:penwalk:"So is that actress that... er, Queef Latina then?"
:girlscream:"OMG, MUM, NO!"

Also mixing her friends up (they all look alike anyway), and then calling them all Janice to make it easier.

I wasn't sure where to stick this.

I got a text from a friend - she is on a cruise and today is in Bar Harbor walking around with her family being tourists.

I googled Bar Harbor live webcams and there was one for this restaurant called Geddy's.

I swear the fuck - I load the webcam and there they are - all just standing there - along with other tourists at the park just opposite the restaurant. So I screen shotted it and sent it to her.

Saw her look at phone, then around in confusion, then back at phone, then show phone to family, then look around again.. then all of them looking confused walking in circles. They were looking for me -thought I was there surprising them- like maybe I was on the cruise too. lol

Y'know how when you're heading for the elevator, and somebody just got in and the doors are closing, and they do that flailing thing where they're either trying or pretending to try to hit the Open button?

Well, if the lady this morning was pretending, she really saved herself, or at least saved me from making up an excuse not to get on. I had let out a couple of farts on the way, and I actually didn't want the door to open back up, so I let it close all casual-like, and then let out the toxic miasma that was waiting behind those warning shots. Luckily this was the 1st floor of the basement garage, so there was maximum ventilation.

AM I NOT MERCIFUL?

The other way around it would be even more funny. You just let out a big silent one because you are alone in there. Then just before the door is about to close a bunch of people turn up and you look at them shaking your head like "It's for the better, believe me".

I rarely bothered to hit the button when I was living in a high-rise building, I just stuck my foot in the door.

I larped for the first time Saturday with our friends Todd and Sharon. It was a small game like 10-12 of us total. We played in the massive (for California) backyard of someone’s house.

It was so much fun that I regret not larping til now. I found it very easy to roleplay and basically stay in character throughout (I was roleplaying someone close to myself, but the story has lots of high tech AI magic). Because you are physically moving and all action is in real time, it just felt more immersive that table top rpgs have when Ive played them.

I thought it was enough fun that I intend to continue playing and to go to crafting day in order to make my own boffer sword.

I’m also a little sore from all the running around and swinging a sword. According to Apple Watch, I walked more than 3 miles larping in a backyard

Did I ever tell you guys the time I stuck my foot in an elevator door and it took my shoe? It was only like four floors I think, and my shoe was still there when it got back, but it still sort of sucked.

Thank you, Gizmoduck, for resurrecting the thread. That's really cool!

Plus, I have an accomplishment too!

Yesterday, I finished dealing with all the apples we had. For background, our neighborhood had (HAS) a massive apple explosion this year, and I made it my mission to save and use as many as I could. I am guessing we got 5-7 full bushels, mostly from these one neighbors' trees, and I went through all of them, peeled, cored, and cut out the damaged parts, made a billion apple cobblers, gave away a bunch of those, froze a bunch of bags of slices for later use, and then, night before last, made a batch of apple butter with the last of them.

I don't think I've ever made apple butter before. It came out too sweet for me, but now I know, and Matlock doesn't mind things that are too sweet for me, so I figure he'll eat it, and next time, I'll use less sugar.

There are rotten apples everywhere around here still, but I've already done what I can so it's not my problem anymore.

I'm impressed. I've been doing 'taste testing' with apple pies using variant pie apples. Year two and I've added a list of about six varieties. But then, what you may have may be any number of varieties, given that they are 'neighborhood trees'. I'm under the impression that certain apples are better for certain uses...and I know it to be true because Gravensteins are absolutely best for pies...so there are pie apples, hand apples, baking apples, drying apples, cider apples....etc., etc., etc. 'Neighborhood trees' just screams for 'Damifino Wukine' apples.

Most excellent...not petty at all.

More pommy, actually.

Next time....cider!

According to the people whose trees they are, the main tree is just Galas, although I got some from the scraggly little rando trees partly growing into our yard as well. Galas are really basic, but I didn't want them to go to waste.

I read your post about the apple tastings with great envy. I think it was from The Botany of Desire that I got this wild hair to try to find different apple varieties, but Colorado isn't much of an apple state and I couldn't find much, so I take what I can get locally and then buy the cool imported ones at the store when they have them. I'm going to look out for Gravensteins.

The last week or so, I'd been having trouble with the volume key on my phone. Thinking it was my phone case wearing out, I ordered a new one yesterday. Today, the problem was bothering me, so I took the case off, and noticed that the back of my phone was separating from the frame. I think it's probably a swollen battery. I called my phone carrier, who said that my phone was out of warranty, and I'd have to go through the insurer.

So I went online with Samsung, who made my phone (and with whom I'd registered my purchase), and THEY will honor my warranty for another 11 days! They're going to send me a mailer to return the phone, and it will take between 5 and 7 business days to get it back. Then I called my carrier back, and they're going to send me a SIM card for my old S5 to use during the interim.

I just finessed a Chipotle order to fifty-one cents under a gift card we had. We only really order online, and they don't let you split payments on orders, so that's kind of a big deal.

If anyone wants 51¢ of The Chipottles, HMU.
