Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
For the first time in 15 or so years I've received a Chick Tract. For the first time ever it wasn't in lieu of a tip after I waited on their table. It's a good one too.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I helped my brother rip carpet up from his rental property.
It was very doggy-smelling.
The padding was very moldy and dusty under the carpet.
I'm going to blame my headache on that.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
So we've ended up with my great-grandfather's chair. I honestly don't know the era, but my best guess is it dates from my grandmother's childhood or early adulthood, making it 1920s-1930s. If it actually dated from my GGF's childhood, that would make it 19th Century, and although it has a bit of a Wild West look, I doubt it. My stepdad put some wood glue in some areas to keep it from pulling apart, but otherwise it's all original.
Also pictured: My grandmother's vanity/mirror. Still has painter's tape because somebody (probably me) lost most of the clips. It's a lovely old piece, not particularly remarkable, but I like the curves. Li'l Puppet wants it and the matching dresser in her room. We need to restain/refinish both before that, but for now I cleaned it all top to bottom with Murphy's Oil Soap. That's the petty accomplishment part. That and the fact that I actually uploaded this.

Angakuk's rules for gift giving.
Parents: Give your children cheap crap. You are never going to see it again anyway.
Children: Give your parents expensive high quality gifts. You just may inherit them when they die.

Furniture often has maker's marks on it which make it easy to identify the era, lots of furniture makers went out of business various eras...

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
The dresser with the round mirror is called waterfall style. 1930s era usually, maker's marks are usually the underside of the seat in chairs.
Looking at the style of the chair I'd guess 1930s, but it's been a while since I tried to identify that sort of thing.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
I just finished rewiring all of America's Most Dangerous Lamps.* It took me quite a minute, because they were all old and weird, and I wanted cloth covered cord for one, so I had to order it online, but now they're all done and they are no longer exploding all the time.
(LIFE HACK: When testing a newly rewired lamp to see if it's working OK, put a lightbulb in it.)
In the process, I also found a pretty nice Ace Hardware relatively nearby, so I don't have to go to Home Depot.
* America now has a whole new set of most dangerous lamps.

Alternatively, you could just stick your finger in the light socket. That way if you wired it wrong you won't be wasting an expensive light bulb.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
Wasn't looking forward to this project because I figured I'd have to do it all by individual commands...
I figured out a way with a couple of relatively simple powershell commands to extract selected information from email accounts across ~200 domains in one of multi-tenant environments. Saved me at least half a day of drudgery.

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
First, I got to becuddle a sweet little pibble today. OMG HE WAS SO SOFT.
This was right after he was barking at his mom because she wasn't sharing her food with him.
And petty thing what I done today #b: I gave the Girl Scouts some money for cookies. This was after I had finished my weekly grocery shopping trip and had gotten into my car and was leaving the parking lot. I seen't them by the other door and knew I had to stop.
Oh. And I just had the idea for something. What if there was a scouting organization for older ladies (older than pea, even!). They could even call it the Golden Girl Scouts!

Re: In Which We Brag About Our Petty Accomplishments
When my son-in-law and daughter moved to India, they left an HP OfficeJet 8600 Plus printer. I downloaded drivers, got it connected to the Internet so that we could print without connecting to it by cable (because we have no room to put it anywhere that would permit that), and set it up underneath a bench in the master bedroom.
Also, I went through the rest of the books for which we had not enough shelf space and picked two boxes full of books to donate.
