Just to put things into perspective, my son developed Lymphoma shortly after his 10 year old twin girls were born. His other daughter is now 17, so he went thru this as an adult, in his mid 30's. His work involved spraying trees with chemicls, and there was some discussion if that was the cause of the Lymphoma. Medical profesionals would say there is no link but there is a high percentage of people contracting Lymphoma who work with different chemicals. They also say there in no heriditary link for having twins. The experts don't understand everything they think they know about some things. Oh, he won't even handle a bottle of 'roundup' now, or any other chemical like that, we also found out that a massage is not recomended because it stimulates the lymph system and could spread any disease that might be present.

Oh, well it's even more fortuitous that things turned for the better. Yes, I think we're a long way from understanding all of the actual health risks of common materials we've come to depend on. Some of these are tough risk/benefit equations to make judgments on.

The Het Valkhof museum in Nijmegen loaned the Tullie House museum in Cumbria a beautiful Roman cavalry helmet to make up for a tragic failure of the British Treasure Act to secure the Crosby-Garret helmet for the nation. I thought that was very sweet of them.

An admirable kindness! Roman helmets, cavalry or otherwise, are getting harder and harder to come by, I should imagine.

They gave us the opportunity to argue about whether or not any legitimate parallels can be drawn between them and the United States. That's pretty fun. :bouncy:

Plus, they gave rise to one of my favorite lyrics..,

The teachers told us, the Romans built this place
They built a wall and a temple, an edge of the empire
Garrison town,
They lived and they died, they prayed to their gods
But the stone gods did not make a sound
And their empire crumbled, 'til all that was left
Were the stones the workmen found

And all this time the river flowed
In the falling light of a northern sun

- Sting

I read the other day that municipal archeology departments in most of the country are complaining that they are almost full to the brim because the Treaty of Malta requires them to excavate any time there is a building site. They may have had too many of the damn things already :blank:

@SR71: Nijmegen has about 160,000 inhabitants.

Yes, it's a fruitful stragety, and besides, self respect is over rated. :yup:

But on the serious tip, me is a minor league Rome aphile, or whatever they call it. Think I should change my signature to a Lucretius quote or something? Would that get me all up in there better? :D:D:D:D

Well, we all have our burdens. Tell them I have most generously extended an offer to relieve them of the excess inventory, if that is their wish. I shall certainly be happy to defray any shipping costs as might be encountered.

Well, that's what Romans do. We have a thing for Empire. And yes, we are shameless.
