For real. Some states are also working on bills where if you're present at a public assembly where private property is damaged by anyone there you are subject to forfeiture of all your proprerty, incarceration, etc under the RICOH act.

It's lolbert Christmas out there!

Here's a roundup, rather than tracking down a bunch of individual stories that've been popping up lately over clamping down on the right to assemble. Thought/word association... uhhm draconian, authoritarian, police state, disturbing, fascist...

Conservative crackdown on protests would label North Carolina dissenters “economic terrorists”

Quote:
“No matter what your politics are, everyone should be concerned anytime that lawmakers seek to curb our fundamental constitutional right to not only protest, but to criticize our government,” American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina spokesman Mike Meno said in an interview. “This is one bill in a wave of legislation that we’ve seen across the country designed to criminalize peaceful protest and really have a chilling effect on our First Amendment rights.”
Washington state is weighing a similar “economic terrorism” measure. Arizona lawmakers want to treat protest organizers like mobsters. Minnesota legislators are pushing for the right to sue protesters to recoup the costs of police overtime incurred by demonstrations. At least four states have moved to criminalize roadway protests in recent months.
Re "No matter what your politics are", actually there has been a persistent meme for years about how liberal protests involve more property damage and violence than those of the right, and liberals are thugs. This kind of plays into the hands of the legislators. Large segments of the right will not think this is any kind of problem.

That's the terrifying thing: while we're all distracted by trivial stuff like what connections there are between the Trump Administration and Russia, the Republicans are busily passing (or getting ready to pass) some truly heinous legislation.

Could you link to any of your posts complaining about any of the 11 times Obama referenced slaves as immigrants?

Ohh .. guess you are a political hack!! Proof.

11 Times Barack Obama Compared Slaves To Immigrants

Obama also referred to slaves as 'immigrants'

Remarks by the President at Naturalization Ceremony | whitehouse.gov

Quote:
And perhaps, like some of you, these new arrivals might have had some moments of doubt, wondering if they had made a mistake in leaving everything and everyone they ever knew behind. So life in America was not always easy. It wasn’t always easy for new immigrants. Certainly it wasn’t easy for those of African heritage who had not come here voluntarily, and yet in their own way were immigrants themselves. There was discrimination and hardship and poverty. But, like you, they no doubt found inspiration in all those who had come before them. And they were able to muster faith that, here in America, they might build a better life and give their children something more.

Thank you! I had no idea that Obama said that shit. And yes, I agree that it sounds every bit as fuck-all stupid coming from Obama as it does coming from Ben "'Brain Surgeon' is now shorthand for 'breathtakingly stupid motherfucking dumbass moron'" Carson.

I reckon the real take away here dates all the way back to the Cicely Tyson-Garrett Morris convo of 1979:

Also I think it has less to do with calling slaves immigrants than it does with saying they were better for it.

“I talked to the President prior to this, and he said to quote him very clearly,” Spicer said. “They may have been phony in the past, but it’s very real now.”

Week 17: Experts in authoritarianism advise to keep a list of things subtly changing around you, so you’ll remember.

published March 11, 2017

This week, some threads from past weeks’ lists continue to unwind: Trump and his regime’s ties to Russia, conflicts of interest, and the dysfunctional and largely unstaffed executive branch. But the broader story of Week 17 is an underlying shift away from democracy, and it’s not subtle at all!

Under the auspices of Trump’s #2 Bannon, our democracy as we know it is transitioning under a term used widely this week: the Deep State. Know this term! A Deep State is a paranoid, authoritarian vision of a regime under siege and being infiltrated — in this case by Obama and his loyalists. This authoritarian vision has been used by the Trump regime as justification by for their ever-increasing need to consolidate power into the hands of a trusted few — transforming our democracy into an authoritarian state, and making it harder to get to the truth on the many troubling matters.
  1. As we headed into Week 17, Trump refused to back off his claims tweeted Saturday morning in Mar-a-logo that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower. Trump demanded that Congress investigate his claim.
  2. Trump provided no evidence for his wiretap claim. Sunday morning on Meet the Press, former DNI Clapper said “I can deny” that Trump Tower was wiretapped.
  3. Sunday, FBI’s Comey also denied Trump’s claim, and asked the DOJ to publicly reject Trump’s wiretapping claim. The DOJ has not rejected Trump’s assertion.
  4. A WH spokesperson rejected Comey’s assertion that Trump’s wiretapping claim is false. Trump regime members continued to dance around the lack of evidence all week, refusing to deny Trump’s false claim.
  5. WAPO reporters, in a disturbing piece, described Trump’s fury and instability over the weekend. Further to story, reporter Costa tweeted: ‘Trump woke up in good spirits, per his confidants. Read the papers and watched early cable shows, liked that they covered his allegations.’
  6. Upon returning to the WH, Monday was the first weekday that Trump’s schedule was entirely closed to the press.
