A while ago, I posted a story about how random strangers came together to help a little Syrian boy, in a small Canadian town, who dreamt of playing hockey.
Guess what?
It just got better. Here's a Thread - with a heart-warming twist.
With less than a minute left, a high school team in Ohio subbed in a player with Down's Syndrome, so he could play in the team's final game of the year.
This is an amazing story about 6 Tongan teenagers that were shipwrecked on a remote island for 15 months in 1966. It's sort of a real life Lord of the Flies, except the boys all cooperate and stay friends for life.
A very happy 96th birthday to President James Earl Carter. I voted for Jimmy in my very first election (1976) and was one of the 7 or 8 people who also voted to reelect him. Having kicked cancer's ass and survived a totally, completely, 100% non-frivolous lawsuit by Seymour Lessans, he planned to spend the day with his long-term spouse Rosalyn, who is also still kicking.
Jimmy Carter remains the only presidential candidate for whom I voted enthusiastically in a general election. (I was pretty happy with my one and only general election presidential protest vote - Gus Hall in 1984 - but that was mostly about VP candidate Angela Davis.)

Almost exactly two years ago I bought an extremely expensive pair of glasses because I had planned on my insurance not covering a minor procedure that it wound up covering. I had to spend a ton of money from my FSA before losing it at the end of the year. So I went to the fancy glasses place and had what was, without doubt, the best customer service experience I have ever had anywhere in my life and bought a pair of Mykita glasses that I love. (And then went back and bought a pair of sunglasses that I also love.)
ANYWAY last night, a little piece of steel snapped off one of the arms. I dug out the receipt and it turns out they had a 2 year manufacturer warranty with 5 days left on it, so I called the place and dropped them off this morning. And the manufacturer is shipping them brand new frames for me!

The Government on Thursday announced it has signed two further pre-purchase agreements for Covid-19 vaccines, allowing it to begin vaccinating New Zealand's entire population from mid-2021.
Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said New Zealand would also purchase enough vaccines for New Zealand Realm countries Tokelau, Niue, and the Cook Islands, as well as neighbours Tonga, Samoa, and Tuvalu, if those countries want to take up the offer.
