Re: Phones on fire! The Explosive Samsung Thread
I was already pretty down on Samsung's manufacturing quality control having a Note Tab 10.1 stuck in a boot loop and a Galaxy S 3 (I know - old) refusing to power up.
Now using LG. Still not drinking the Apple Kool-aid, of course.

I'm still very happy with the Galaxy S6 Edge. The S3 was just not very good.

Re: Phones on fire! The Explosive Samsung Thread
I wonder if the batteries themselves are shorting or if it's circuitry in the phone that causes the shorts or otherwise over current condition.

Re: Phones on fire! The Explosive Samsung Thread
They were supposed to have suspected a batch of faulty batteries, but those were all replaced in the updated phones that are still "catching on fire".
So either some people screwed up and continued to make and fit faulty batteries believing they were good, or it's some other fault inside the phone that's destroying the batteries.
Incidentally, although LiPo batteries can and do occasionally ignite, it's actually very difficult to make it happen when you try.
Watch this YouTube video from the Great Scott channel (I like this guy's channel by the way and watch all his output).

Re: Phones on fire! The Explosive Samsung Thread
That's a good video, although one thing not mentioned is some of the gasses produced are highly flamable. Had he held a match to those clouds they might have caught on fire. So it's possible something in the phone is hot enough to ignite them when the battery vents.

My vague recollection of the articles is a vague consensus on it being the batteries. But mobile phone charging is a complex interplay of charging current offered to the battery (which the phone controls) and how the phone responds to a given charging current at a given level of charge (which is up to the battery).
Not to mention the cables - USB type C is designed to provide higher charging currents - and the power adapters.

Re: Phones on fire! The Explosive Samsung Thread
This has left me very sad. I was looking forward to buying the Note 7. Even all the news about the faulty batteries was insufficient to lower my enthusiasm for finally owning one as I expected Samsung to iron out the issues. That Samsung's leadership has taken such a drastic step leads me to suspect that there was a fatal flaw with the phone itself.
Hopefully, whatever issues killed the Note 7 will be sorted out in time for the launch of the Note 8. I'll have to wait until the next model before replacing my phone.

Re: Phones on fire! The Explosive Samsung Thread
I would guess there won't be a "Note 8". I predict a Samsung Frost, Samsung Subzero, or Samsung Super-Safety No-Explodey Phone.

Re: Phones on fire! The Explosive Samsung Thread
I have had nothing but good experiences with the quality of my Samsung products, my Galaxy Tab 7.0, Galaxy SIII, and Galaxy S5 Active mobile devices, my Chromebox, and my French-door, bottom-freezer refrigerator. My grandson has my S5 Active now because I got a Google Project Fi phone, an LG Nexus 5X.
