I haven't done laundry for a while and I ran out of nice nylons and now I am wearing dollar store nylons that are baggy at the knees.

We have been gifted a Sodastream, and I kind of don't want it.

I do drink sparkling water in the summer, so I guess I'll try that and probably some experiments with agua frescas or whatever, and maybe it'll be OK, but this whole thing is going to be a pain in the ass, with the canisters and taking up space in the teeny tiny kitchen. And I don't like actual soda very much, but Matlock does, so maybe he'll get some use out of it if it's a suitable substitute for his brand or whatever. And I just remembered the Israel thing. It was on deep clearance, I guess, so maybe that makes that part matter less.

I'll soldier on somehow. PROBABLY.

I thought you had a huge place ... but then I remembered that was just my imagination.

Anyway, I use my Sodastream for tonic water and recently ginger ale. It's entirely acceptable.

It's not a McMansion or anything, but the house is pretty big at least by my standards. The kitchen is small, though, and I don't have enough space even for the things I already use. I can't remember the last time I drank soda.

Plus I just don't like gadgets in general, and a lot of people think I do.

POOR ME!

Update: Sparkling agua jamaica is almost as good as regular agua jamaica.

I mean, it's actually not bad and might be nice as a change up sometimes. Plus maybe I can make other people drink it or whatever god I don't know.

I still wish I didn't have this infernal device.

Never been much for sodas myself, although I've been sucking up my company's free La Croix sparkling waters like a dying camel, mostly because they're free. Anyway, I like most of the flavors, which are all pretty subtle, since they have no sugar or other bullshit, just a little flavoring to enhance the bubbles.

All of that just to say, if you already think what you're drinking is tasty enough, bubble-izing it probably won't enhance that experience. However, something that might be just a tad too bland (e.g. a tea, or water with some sort of fruit floating in it) could be worth using your worthless device for.

At work I keep a soda (pepsi) can in the fridge all the time so I can take one from my desk-side cupboard stash and switch it for the fridge one and always have a cold drink whenever I feel the need. Lately, this fridge pepsi has been occasionally warm, I reason due to someone else having an *emergency* need for a cold pepsi, so I have started keeping two of them in there just in case of such an emergency situation happening.

Now BOTH my fridge pepsis were warm. Unacceptable.

I need to switch to coke or something else less popular around here.

Midsummer day is, like, a pretty big deal in the Nordic countries, so most establishments are firmly closed today.

This morning I noticed my kettle is leaking water all over its electrical parts. Now I got a hankering for a pasta pot, requiring boiling water. So I had to decide whether to use a pan on the stove like medieval people or Americans, or to defy death by electrocution.

Defy death it is.

I found this frigging Wikipedia bullshit:
Quote:
In countries with 240 V mains electricity, electric kettles are commonly used to boil water without the necessity of a stove top. The heating element is typically fully enclosed, with a power rating of 2–3 kW. This means that the current draw for an electric kettle is upwards 10 A, which is a sizeable proportion of the current available for a typical home: the main fuse of most homes varies between 20 and 100 A. For this reason electric kettles, while available, are much less popular in countries with 110 V mains electricity, where electric sockets are often current limited to providing around 1.5 kWs.
So perhaps the American kettle-lack is not just about their antiquated attitudes to tea but also their antiquated electrical systems.

That is mostly true but also slightly wrong. It’s not that our system is outdated it’s that we’re cheap bastards... and our standards are outdated.

US households get in a 240v 180°out of phase two phase power that’s mostly split at the box into good ol 120v at the plug. Which was allegedly better for the shitty light bulbs we used in the 1800s and we never saw reason to change or something. This is *either* capped at 15amps or 20amps but 15 is cheaper so 15 is common, and puts a 1800watt limit on the plug, which manufacturers try not to hit by limiting things to 1500w. Thus yes indeed, kettles, microwaves, toaster ovens, space heaters and other wall outlet devices are limit to 1500watts. But, as I said up top we really get in 240v power across 2 lines and both can be used with a plug with an extra prong (two hot inputs) and receptacle designed to deal with 240v at up to 50amps which then maxes out at 12,000w; so a 3000w kettle would be no problem if we cared enough about them to have them converted to the 4 prong plug and find where the single receptacle that’s installed in an inconvenient out of the way location meant only for the stove is.
