Then you have a fine future career in family law.

Nothing like representing liars with no money while your genitals burn.

I don't get the Black's hatin'. I use it all the time (as do the courts). Words are the most important thing in law.

I have the hardcover and the pocket edition.

As for reading the casebooks, don't get hung up on the facts. Zoom in on the holding and the rule. You'll find 80-page opinions where only a couple of paragraphs are worth remembering. If that.

I know nothing and can only make a post of no value whatsoever, but I shall do it anyway:

I think you'll be great at law. And I think you'll be great at international law, Dr. Fristians. I'll be rooting for you. I may even keep rooting for you after you've completely sold out. So good luck, and go get 'em!, Chucky. :yup:

I use Black's all the time. That and the Rules of Civil Procedure are the two books I use the most at work now.

Well, of course, it all depends. I bought Black's Law Dictionary but had virtually no occasion to use it, and it was way too big to carry around. (Taking 4 or 5 1300-page casebooks to class was what broke me of using a briefcase, and switching to a backpack.) I think Black's is on the Lexis and/or Westlaw site, however, iirc, so, even if you love it, no need to buy a big book when you can use the virtual one.

The Blue Book, however, now that is some kind of cool. We have our "own" style manual (the "yellow book") in California, but every now and again there are weird things that it doesn't cover, so our backup is the Blue Book.

Congratulations, Chuck. I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience. I'm pert near certain I couldn't hack law school, but I'll have an associates degree in a few months so I'm starting to think about what's next. Today the likelihood is that I'll pursue a BA or BS in Computer Science, but as much as I love working with computers I'd rather not have my entire life revolve around them.

Hey, Chuck, you're not alone. The fat kid from Stand By Me is enrolled in Law Skewl too. And if he's too busy to bang his wife Rebecca Romijn, I'll stand by, me.

Good on you Chuck. Just what the world needs, another bloody lawyer.

I tried law school when I was 20. We touched on Family Law in my first year and I got out. That and the convoluted nature of law convinced me I was better off scrubbing toilets. So I could have been a lawyer or a cleaner. I chose to keep my dignity.

Of course now I'm practicing to be a scientist. Facts, cold hard facts. I like facts.

First day of class today. Torts in the morning, that was ok. Civ Pro - my small section - in the afternoon.

I haven't used either of them yet but right now I prefer Lexis to Westlaw because they gave me a nifty flash drive and Westlaw gave me some crappy lunch bag.

Did you get the lecture that your outstanding baccalaureate achievements are no longer worth a bag of shit?

And, if so, did you laugh out loud and point out that the joke's on them, because you don't have any outstanding achievements, baccalaureate or otherwise?

Yeah we got a bowdlerized version of that. To be honest, at this point if somebody offered me a bag of shit in exchange for my outstanding baccalaureate achievements, I'd have to ask exactly how big the bag is.

Mine wasn't so bowdlerized:

Professor: Raise your hands if you had a 3.9 or 4.0 GPA in undergrad.
Proud students: [raise hands]
Professor: That shit is over.
