Partly because I am broke and partly because I am moving soon. So, I need less stuff and more money.

Very interesting. I don't fire guns either, but I've always owned them. I just recently parted with a modified SKS and 500 rounds of amunition. I've been contemplating getting rid of all my guns just to prove to myself that I don't need them. For a gun to be useful it has to be loaded and very easily accessible, and those are both no-gos with children in the house.

Yeah, it's funny. What was left were the ones with sentimental value. Over the past few years I have learned not to measure my sentiments in terms of stuff in my possession. But it is strange. I've owned guns since I was a child.

Flagstaff is safe as hell. The kind of place you don't lock your door unless you live on the bad side of town, ...and then the extent of your worry is that you should probably lock your door.

None of my weapons were really suitable for home defence anyway, least of all my favorite 58 caliber cap&ball rifle. ...oh how I saved up to buy that thing, drove the store clerks nuts coming in and asking questions about it, looking at it, handling it, and marvelling at it while I worked another week to pay for it. ...and oh how I laughed the day it knocked my brother on his ass.

"How much powder can it take?"

"Anywhere from 30 to 150."

Ah yes, nothing like seeing the unwary getting knocked on their ass. I did that to a friend who'd never shot a gun before, gave him a 12 guage shotgun with 3" magnum buckshot rounds. He asked "does it kick", I replied "just a little"...

I Don't think I could do that. I do fire my guns fairly often, and since I live in the country where if anything did happen, the cops would show up just in time to process the crime scene. And while I'd love to say what I think about obama and his communist policies, I think I'd better wait a couple of months.

Only time I've sold a rifle so far was one which didn't seem to be easily converted to California-Legal condition. Used the money to buy one which was. As you say, not much point in owning something you never use, unless it's for collector's value.

I'm still contemplating selling my motorcycle and taking up Cowboy Shooting Sports though, requiring a whole new set of shootin' irons, a brace of .45s, a double-barrel shotgun, and an authentic lever action carbine rifle.
