Default Oh, my darling Clementines...

I'm in heaven right now. The grower's market down the street is selling 5 lb. boxes of these small orange jewels, so fun and easy to peel and separate into eight-twelve perfect seedless segments, sweet andd juicy...

I think I've eaten about a pound of 'em already today

Anyone else love these little buggers? If you like tangerines or mandarins, they're for you (actually they are a variety of mandarin). A tasty way to get lots of vitamin C, too!

Thanks, Lauri... I'll be on the lookout. Although I don't eat oranges, I will eat mandarins...they sound scrumptious.

I love clementines but I usually don't buy them for exactly this reason. I end up eating the whole crate over a couple days.

Are you sure the fiber isn't all in the skin and white stuff? 'Cause I really, really hate that white stuff. :brooding:

Oh, have you tried juicing them yet? I bet they'd make kickass juice.

I love them because they are delicious, easy to peel, and don't have seeds! Oh wait, you already said all those things... but yes, I do love buying the little 5 lb crates of them, especially when they're on sale/special. They're consumed within just a few days.

Hmmm... I dunno about the fiber/white stuff... could be, in which case it wouldn't do any good since I think most people peel off the bitter white stuff.

Haven't tried juicing them yet... might do that this afternoon (if there are any left :giggle: )

oranges...mandarins...clementines...delicious sweetness delicious.

I also love this citrus fruit, it's very similiar to oranges(probably in the same family) except it's very tiny, only an inch across or so. You eat it whole, rind and everything. It's a little ball of pure crunchy deliciousness.

I don't know what it's called, I've only had some in Italy where I just call them "quelle arance piccolissime".

At my house we call clementines "fruit-crack". This just about sums it up.

Perfect description. I ate seven of 'em upon waking today and I fear that they will be gone by tomorrow.

Were they called nespoli in Italian, by any chance? We had a tree of them when I was a kid and never neglected to harvest every last one.

There's fiber in the orange part, too, not just the white part. :) But you lose most of the fiber when you juice them. The fiber's in the skin of those little gel tubules that holds the drops of juice next to each other.

I've got a tangerine tree in my backyard. You heathens can have your seedless citrus. My tangerines are loaded with seeds, but they're free, and orgasmically delicious. Their deep orange color makes the oranges from the tree next door look anemic.

When I was a kid, we had a tangerine tree AND a Meyer lemon tree in our backyard. I didn't truly realize how extraordinary that was until I grew up and started doing my own grocery shopping... and discovered that tangerines are $6.99 for five pounds, in season, and Meyers are $7/pound if you're lucky. Sigh.

Growing up we had a tree of fruit that was a hybrid of a peach and an apricot. Essencially it grew apricots the size of peaches. When I saw regular-sized apricots in the store, I thought, "What the hell are those? Kumquats?" When the tree blossomed my dad would sing "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" and when it bore fruit my mom would make Creeping Crust cobbler and I would eat the raw fruit until my poo was like water.

There are peach trees here (in Georgia? No!) and they look like popcorn when they blossom and it reminds me of my dad. But they don't bear fruit. :sadcheer:
