The former Rhode Island governor, who just formed an exploratory committee last week, on Thursday morning uttered the words, “that’s why I’m running,” during an appearance on CNN.
Quote:
On paper, Chafee’s resume is presidential caliber: He’s served in the Senate, as governor and as the mayor of Warwick, Rhode Island. But he faces several obstacles to being considered a serious rival to Clinton for the nomination. For one, he only joined the Democratic Party in 2013 — after serving in the Senate as a Republican and running for governor as an independent — and lacks the political infrastructure of former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, who served for two years as chairman of the Democratic Governors Association.
Dance with the one that brung ya, Linc. As a Republican, an Independent, and now as a Democrat, the one consistent factor about Lincoln Chafee is that he's a prevaricating fuck posing as someone trying to thoughtfully arrive at a best solution. Like when he said he was against approving Alito to the Supreme Court but then voted to end debate on his nomination, only voting against Alito's confirmation when it was clear he would be confirmed anyway. Or how he promised teachers in RI he would bring new blood into the Dept. of Ed, signalling to teachers at an NEA rally I personally attended that he would replace the widely despised commissioner Deborah Gist. But as gov, not only did he keep Gist (who snubbed Diane Ravitch at an ed. roundtable held in RI that Chaffee was party to), but supported state treasurer Gina Raimondo's Wall Street gutting of the RI pension system.
Quote:
Chafee declined to seek reelection as governor last year in the face of a Democratic primary that many observers believed he could not have won.
True that. After a single term as governor, consensus was "Governor Gump" would have had trouble being elected state dog-catcher -- this in a state where even convicted felons have a good shot at being re-elected. The article also conveniently does not mention that when Senator Chafee ran for re-election in 2006 Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse beat him handily.
Quote:
“Right now...I want to make sure people know I’m serious about my record, promoting the character I’ve displayed.”
Linc Chafee's character?
Hil doesn't have anything to be worried about here. Move along. Unfortunately.
In my fantasies, I dream of the look on the faces of Obama and the Clintons, and the Obama/Clinton Wall Street sellout wing of the "Democratic" Party that has held sway since 1992, on the last day of the Democratic Convention next year, when Bernie Sanders strides to the microphone to make his acceptance speech. I anticipate something as great as FDR in 1932 and Harry Truman in 1948, the latter especially (though I'm no fan of Truman, just of that particular speech, the video of which can be found online -- zounds! What a speech!).
I would love nothing better than to see Sanders beat Hillary like a gong in the caucuses and primaries. And I do believe it could happen. Lots and lots of people are fed up with both parties, and know that both parties are in the pockets of the rich and are relentlessly screwing them.
In that vein, I think Sanders might have crossover appeal to the Tea Party. Tea Partiers are not to be completely condemned. I think a good many of them know they are being screwed; they are just confused as to the target of their rage. Which is to be expected in a nation whose mass media is every bit as controlled by the Establishment as it is in Putin's Russia. In any event, Tea Partiers distrust Wall Street as much as they do liberals, so there is something to work with there.

Homophobe, Creationist and token black conservative Ben Carson has announced his run for the republican race.
I can't wait for the debates where a bunch of totally straight guys spend the whole time analyzing the disgusting nature of different gay sex acts while eying each other like a Catholic Priest in a pre-school.
Perry had the guts to tell an audience of Republicans that denying undocumented immigrant children an education was heartless.
I mean, he's still an idiot. And perhaps his incompetence should worry me more. Dubya part two and all.
But I think Walker is a tool of the Kochs and their ilk more than any of the others, and his domestic policy would be more single-minded about enacting their economic agenda I think.
Last time Rick Perry had to drop out of the Republican primary because he was literally too stupid. Think about that for a minute. Too stupid for the Republican primary.
Walker may have bought himself some trouble with the emerging WEDC thing. We will see how it plays out. Cannot wait for debates amongst this crew. The stupid should flow pretty freely.

It might be that if he is the nominee, he would crash and burn.
But based on the media coverage and his electoral history in Wisconsin (and Wisconsin doesn't seem especially crazier than the US as a whole), yeah his election seems plausible.
I would hope that Hillary would be able to beat him though. But if the economy goes down again or hiccups at an inopportune time, all bets are off.
