Re: First World Problems
I had a tree die last year. It provided shade to part of the house. I replaced it in the spring with a tiny little tree that should do better in that location.
It's going to be 100 F for the next several days. The little tree doesn't shade the house. So when I watch TV, the windows will let in heat on my back while the AC will be blowing on my front. I wonder if that's what it feels like in space when astronauts get the sun on one side and shadow on the other?
In 5 years the tree will grow enough to shade some of the house again, but I'll be old by the time it's big enough to really matter. Probably still watching TV.

I have found that covering a window with aluminum foil works well to block out the nasty rays. nasssty

Re: First World Problems
I guess I could unfold the tinfoil hat. With my big head it should be enough to cover the window.
I'm sitting here with my Father's Day card all ready to mail, but I have no stamp. The mailroom lady doesn't get back for 8 more minutes. So I have to remember for 8 more minutes so I don't forget to send the card and have a repeat of Mother's Day (where I left the card on the counter when we went to visit and she got it late).
I bet I forget.

Re: First World Problems
I came back to this thread and it reminded me to send my card.
They measured postage and I had a pile of coins to get rid of in my pocket, but came up 1 cent short of having enough to rid myself of the small change. So I gave them 2 quarters and got 3 pennies back. Increasing the number of coins in my pocket instead of decreasing.
I may have to glue some to the sidewalk outside to make myself feel better.

On the eve of a long weekend I am attempting to participate in some kalsarikännit, but am too tired to get any proper drinking done. Just so unfair.

Re: First World Problems
Thanks for the time zone difference between Russia and the US, Earth. Jeez, World Cup games start a 7am and go through the working day. Stupid replays at night, but that's assuming I don't know the finals yet.
I stream the games at work, but can't watch them because I'm out in the open, so I listen and catch the highlights when something happens.
Soccer announcers suck because they make every pass sound exciting even if they aren't close to scoring.
Fernando Fiore and Jorge Pérez-Navarro are such Latin American homers that I was hoping Argentina and Mexico got knocked out. The Germans haven't been beaten that bad since 1945.

Re: First World Problems
I had a friend go there and complain about how light it was all the time during the summer. Ummm, geography and such. Almost the entire country is up north like Canada/Alaska and about the size of the North American continent.

Re: First World Problems
I used to work on a project out in the middle of BFE. Actually, you drove to the end of the world, took a right, and drove another 4 hours.
The hotel/restaurant/bowling alley/gas station was on CST and the project was on MST so it was like time traveling everyday. Somebody was always late or early for all the meetings or lunches until we decided project time was CST since most of the businesses we dealt with were in that zone any old who. We set all clocks, PCs, and watches to that time and if anyone lived on MST they just had to suck it up.
Even after we coordinated the hours part of time the area was still 50 years in the past.

Re: First World Problems
My current job (see signature) involves working with people in China (Guangzhou not that it matters) (UTC+8), Russia (Moscow area, UTC+3), France (UTC+2), UK (UTC+1) São Paolo Brazil (UTC-3) and New Jersey USA (UTC-4). Getting China, Russia, Brazil and the US on the same call is quite challenging ... can be done at 12:00 UK time with the Chinese working a bit late and the Americans starting at 07:00 which they all seem to anyway.
Every call has to start with some variant of "Good morning everyone - or afternoon" *laugh*
And when you get used to it ... there are the summer time changes, which are different in the US from Europe, and of course the other way around for Brazil.
Whole World Problems.

Re: First World Problems
The Mor-man is a bit of a neat freak, I've discovered.
This morning he made the bed before he left for work. The trouble is... I was still in it!
