Re: Forum Index Haxxored!
A router will not disguise your computer. Who are you talking to about computer security? Malware and crap is almost always gotten through user error...downloading it or clicking on weird shit. If you use IE, stop. If you click unexplained links in emails, stop. Ask these guys about good cleaning software.
I have been on the net forever...like 15+ years, and had exactly one incidence of malware, and that was from me panicking and clicking a bunch of pop ups and shit on an attack site. My bad.
Really, what makes you think a srs hacker would attack you? That's a lot of work for taking exception to a forum post. I wouldn't worry.

Re: Forum Index Haxxored!
That's what I saw.
I decided it was time to take the dog for a walk.
A few years ago Sandra and I visited a town scrapyard. The sort of thing that gets called a recycling depot now - it was much more fun in the late nineties.
Anyway, the guy looking after the place used to sit in the site caravan and fiddle with his PC. He was a bit concerned because his case was coming up in court. He'd hacked into the Ministry of Defence computer and left them good wishes. They'd caught him but if he can get by security like that what chance do we have?

I'm not talking about viruses. It has more to do with the cookies you receive when visiting just about any site, which track your activity on the web. This is mostly what I get, and lots of it.
If you download a copy Spyware Doctor and try it a few days, you might see what I'm talking about.

I had something like this happen before, with someone I knew from work, who was a lot more computer savvy than I was. And, after a falling out with each other, he threatened to do something like this, and all kinds of weird things started happening.
I still keep wondering if he's lurking out there somewhere?

Re: Forum Index Haxxored!
Ok, for all the good it will do.
1) Iacchus, no one is going to take exception with something you say here because most of what you say here is incoherent nonsense babble.
2) Even if they did, and somehow managed to get your IP address, it is extremely unlikely, and nearly impossible, that this tiny amount of essentially non-private information would allow them to affect your computer in any way.
3) If your computer is behaving oddly, it is, as LadyShea pointed out, most likely because of something you accidentally did yourself. You clearly do not have an especially firm grasp on how some basic internet technologies work.
4) The fact that FF was momentarily hacked as part of a very broad attack exploiting a vulnerability in server configuration has nothing whatsoever to do with you, your computer, your browser, your IP address, or your internet connection.

Sure, I understood this after the site came back up, but there was a period of 45 minutes to an hour where I wasn't sure. And I couldn't get Igor or what's his face off my damn computer screen. And, like I said before, I just thought it was strange how it occurred the day after it occurred to me something like this might happen. That is all.

5) Your concern about being "tracked" via cookies, etc, is largely misplaced (and has absolutely nothing to do with your IP address). The (anonymous, non-private) information that can be gleaned via cookie tracking is useful for analytics, advertising, and virtually nothing else. The worst that's going to happen is that some advertising company is going to know what sites the anonymous person using your browser has been visiting and show you ads targeted to what they think your interests might be based on those sites. If you want to prevent even that, you can refuse to accept third party cookies only.

But if you take the date of the day it occurred to Iacchus that hackers exist, multiply it by the amount of time, in seconds, that was Turked, subtract the last four digits of his SSN (which the hackers acquired by tracking his movements via a cookie the hacked site embedded in his IP address, using a GUI written in Visual Basic), and take the square root (because everyone here is such a square, daddy-o), you get THE ZIP CODE FOR SAN JOSE!

Attempting to fuel the paranoia of a person who refuses to medicate his mental illness is counter-productive. I know this because I was just thinking about counter-productiveness when I was at the store putting a product on a counter. Co-wink-E-dink? I think not.

Or, maybe I'm thinking of malware versus spyware, if there's a distinction there? Anyway the program that I have is suppose to keep track of and delete both, if I instruct it to do so. It also has an anti-virus feature you can add, which more or less makes it complete.

Re: Forum Index Haxxored!
Malware is just a generic term for any software that does something without the users' knowledge or consent. Spyware is a subcategory of malware that gathers information about your system, activities, etc. it's good that you have a package that defends against it but, as LadyShea, said, your best defense is to avoid opening or installing anything from untrusted sources.

Actually it had more to do with this here. For I had been fantasizing about Kari Byron earlier the day I posted the thread and, having made her my queen (I didn't get to the point of actually wanking off though), I decided to Google "naked pictures of Kari Byron," and that was pretty much the end of it. That is, until Doctor X posted her picture shortly after I opened the thread.
