True, but there's one rule of travel that I must admit has never been wrong, especially the times I've tried to ignore it:

Bring half as much clothes and twice as much money.

Has he been flying in awhile, as what counts as a carry on has gotten quite small on airlines especially for your 6 month trip to the opposite side of the globe adventure.

When going someplace tropical or coastal, often buying clothes to match the conditions when you get there is better anyway. Many many “San Francisco” sweaters get sold here because people come to sunny sweltering California but hit SF’s cold and foggy season. It’s both amusing but also it seems less reasonable to lug around a sweater just incase the 3 days in SF of a 4 week california trip happens to be extremely cold.

Just the same in hawaii there’s multiple ‘you forgot this’ stores that I inevitably buy flip flops at because I forget how useful they are for beach going. Presuming Mor Mens don’t melt or catch on fire when they touch sea water.

The Mor-Man wants to do this trip with one carry on and no checked luggage

I'll keep you posted.
How much magic underwear does a morman need for a month-long trip?

May not apply to places that are Frickin' Expensive. AKA: parts of Europe. Anywhere else? Imma try that. :)

ETA: maybe I'll try it in Frickin' Expensive Europe, come home with a lot of excellent Marks and Spencer underpants and fine Italian dress shirts.

I've been there with my family last summer. There are so many great restaurants, perfect beaches, and outdoor adventures. We stayed at Halekulani. It's an amazing place. All the staff provided great services at every opportunity. They've got a nice terrace for evening drinks. The only thing I didn't like was our neighbours - newlyweds. Our baby used to sleep outdoors and was constantly waken up by loud music and laughing. But if you are travelling on your own without any kids - it's ok.

My only suggestions at this time : do Honolulu first. Do Maui on the way home.
and you're probably not planning enough time in Tahiti.
Probably too much in Honolulu.
Oh, yeah, Summer in OZ can really suck.

Hey LarsMac.... we are on a cruise so it's just limited time in Tahiti, Bora Bora, NewZealand and Maui. Sydney we have a several days, and Honolulu we have a week.

Going to avoid that killer island in NZ that incinerates tourists.

We are getting closer to our trip :excited:

I just basically purchased - Australian and New Zealand Visas - the applications were more of an order/payment, than anything else. The visas came back instantly - doubtful that we were vetted or had any information checked.

Australia and NZ? Visas? For American passport holders? Stays under six months?

So Hawaii may close it's ports to cruise ships and the other crazy place we are going (australia) has no toilet paper for my butt.

This trip with the Mor-man is completely messed up.

Probably best for you if the cruise is officially cancelled - that way you'll get a refund.

Two women I know: one chose not to take a flight to Cyprus this week, and has no hope of a refund; the other has already paid over five thousand pounds up front for a holiday in Japan in April - if it's not officially cancelled then, knowing her, she will still take the trip - even though she will likely have a miserable and perhaps risky holiday.

Edit to add: Princess Cruises and some other cruise ship companies have now announced that all cruises for the next few months will be cancelled. https://eu.usatoday.com/story/travel...-1/5030006002/

Yes, it would make it much easier on me if the cruise line canceled, or Australia stopped receiving flights from North America, or Hawaii closed their ports to ships. Then it would be out of our hands.

But, if the flight is a go, ship is a go, ports are a go - the Mor-Man is a go.

See my link in the post above: Viking and Princess have cancelled all cruises. If you're with a different cruise line, check their website or for press releases about them. I expect most will cancel now.

Flights less likely to be cancelled right now - so if you booked those separately and still intend to go, then you'll likely need to figure out alternatives for the cruise segments of your planned trip.

I advise putting off any further payments on your trip as long as you can - there's still the possibility that some flights will be cancelled, or that you'll decide things are so bad at certain destinations that you no longer want to travel there.

I'm on it.

Princess is being responsible here - they had 3 affected ships and took a black eye in the media and public opinion - forever the cruise lines with passengers trapped.

I am not sure if the others will follow suit - I think this is really to save face with the public. who knows... another week and I should know what we are doing.

Right now our cruise line is a go - offering only future credit to anyone who cancels - no refunds.

Tahiti has closed it's ports until April 10th - this is one of our ports of call - but not until May.
