You claim to be an editor at a newspaper. You ought to be aware that the NYT news team is editorially separate from the op-ed team.

One of the local news sites has been posting vaguer and vaguer headlines for the clicks and I've now chucked them into the bin of useless news after an article mixed in with local news read "Day at the beach turns to panic, tragedy; married couple die" given that SF is on the beach I thought 'Oh shit, what happened!' Yeah turns out it was in fucking Massachusetts. While sad and unfortunate that that happened, it felt pretty manipulative for the site to mention the beach but leave off "On the other side of the country" just so they would get more clicks out of the tragedy.
