I've done a lot of venting in my day. I get upset and angry over even dumb things. I've even said things out loud or under my breath and even in my own head that I would regret if anyone else heard it or read about it. "In the heat of the moment of frustration," is totally a thing that can easily be misunderstood and held against really anyone. But even then, I've never used that word or really any racial pejorative, to direct my invective.

I can't say never, but it is something I stopped doing quite some time ago and something which I knew was shameful so stopped doing in front of others even longer than that.

I did also go through a period where I used racial epithets and was racist, and then probably less racist, but still used the language, and then stopping using the language.

This was in stages throughout my childhood, but I think I grew up in a particularly racist place in the rural south.

It is super fucked up for two people to have a conversation like that. I mean it was probably a common thing.

I knew plenty of racist cops who joked about dwb or dwm and they wouldn't say the shit in the article.

edited to add: I worked lots of years in convenience stores and so cops would hang out. We would give them free coffee to attract them. Stores get robbed. I spoke to many police officers. When I worked in a store in arcade, I knew all the officers on the police force (only 6) it is a tiny little town. The four main patrol officers were all racist in that way to varying degrees, but over the years, lots of racist cops have talked to me and been pretty open about the racism. Still, the stuff in the article is worse.

I think if you’re venting about the genocide of the people you’re in contact with most of the day, it’s time for a new job. These cops act like they were conscripted, forced into this and are just doing their best to survive, but of course not, it’s a voluntary paid position, they signed up for it, they knew what they were getting into and can walk away.
Oh it’s too hard? Quit!

Of course the sad reality is that just like Trump hates losers who get themselves captured, the cops so fear any sign of weakness that they will happily defend a cops right to violence up too and including when he murder suicides himself and his family, but would never spend money on the therapy needed to allow them to handle the situation in a healthy way because that’s showing weakness. Besides a therapist takes money out of the budget for grenade launchers.

Now with the current wave of demonstrations against police violence over the last few weeks and a resurged Movement for Black Lives, at least 10,000 protesters across the country have already been arrested, many of whom are facing even more severe charges.

Two attorneys, Colinford Mattis and Urooj Rahman, were arrested for allegedly attempting to set an empty police car on fire. The car was in an isolated area and had already been vandalized. Yet after the federal government escalated the charges initially brought by state prosecutors, the two are now facing 45 years to life in prison. Droves of legal experts have questioned the use of federal law and intervention in the case. A federal appeals court has denied them bond and ordered that they be returned to jail. They currently await their next hearing from a notorious federal jail in Brooklyn.


The disproportionately harsh treatment of Mattis and Rahman is consistent with the recent push from the presidential administration’s for retributive crackdowns and draconian law-and-order.

We know what’s likely to happen next, because it’s happened before. During the Ferguson uprising, police and prosecutors engaged in mass arrests, often for arbitrary charges, and pursued harsh sentences, ostensibly to teach protesters a lesson. Since Ferguson, states have put forth at least 154 new laws and restrictions on protests, 54 of which have already been passed. In effect, police can take anything — such as a curfew violation — and arrest people, fabricate a resisting arrest of assault on an officer charge, and turn protesting into felony charges. (During recent protests against police violence, for example, a Temple University student was initially charged with assaulting an officer until video evidence emerged showing that the officer was the one beating him in the head with a baton, while another officer used his knee to forcibly press the student’s face into the pavement.)
