They have obviously been planning this for long. Some might say too long. Those some would probably not be Belgians.

Whatever, no one's questioning that the Belgians are nefarious.

This isn't a map, but it has countries in it and it comes from Fascinating Maps:

Lesotho (which is wholly enclosed by South Africa) has the highest lowest point.

I feel that liv would appreciate this. Shame she will never see this post. Maybe she's already seen it via some other source.

Ah, goodie. There's a quibble in the comments about the projection used similar to the one I just had in my head.

In short, good for comparing water to land at various latitudes, but a wee deceptive when comparing different lattitudes, say between the equator and N60.

I reject your quibble. The south pole clearly wins.

Via New interactive death map breathes life into medieval London | Science | The Guardian:

London Medieval Murder Map — Violence Research Centre
Or, full-page London Medieval Murder Map

Quote:
One striking feature, he said, is that the perpetrators and victims of the violence were not on the margins of society, pointing out that law students, clergy and guild-members were among both the murderers and the dead. The records also show that more than 90% of the offenders were men – and that society was heavily armed.

“Almost every act of homicide was committed with a weapon that likely was either designed for conflict or a weapon that could easily be used in a conflict,” said Eisner. “Very few cases were done by hands or something else that just happened to be around.”
I think my favourite so far is "Vicious attack for dropping eel skins outside a shop" in Cordwainer ward. Thou mayest finde it with ye controules and filteres at ye top of ye mappe.

I have a (trivial) theory about why that is ... legacy of former USSR, significant Russian populations still.

Interesting that (to a rough view) New England has some of the lowest rates across the US.

Brexit will help correct the difference, freeing Britain from this pernicious cultural constraint the EU puts on our murder rate.

Q. When is an island not an island?
A. When it gets the free upgrade to being called a continent.

Trivia: Luzon, which is an island in the Philippines, (directly beneath Great Britain on that chart), has a lake named Taal Lake. Inside Taal Lake is another island named Volcano Island. Volcano Island consists mainly of a volcano, and the caldera of the volcano contains a lake - and in that lake is the small island of Vulcan Point. Vulcan Point is therefore an island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island.

Poor countries have low debt ratios.

It's almost as if no one will lend to them.
