I knew this was coming because he hasn't been well for a while, but dammit still.

I have this really bad habit of giving my favorite books away, hoping people will read them, and then later, realizing that I don't own a copy of one of my favorite books and buying a new copy, only to give that one away too.

I've given away more Marquez than any other author by a huge margin.

PS: Please resubmit this thread with the title Chronicle of a Death Foretold.

Paris Review has republished an interview with him from 1981, which is just making me love him even more.

(From Metafilter, where someone also thought of the Chronicle of a Death Foretold thing.)

PS: I was kidding about changing the title, but now I also love The Man even more.

Not even sorry for three posts in a row.

Longform.org's fiction of the week is A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings.

This links to a few other of his short stories available free online:

(I really wasn't kidding about giving away books I think people will like. I've felt like rereading some Marquez, but all I've been able to find so far are Of Love and Other Demons and Living to Tell the Tale, so I'm scrounging around like a hobo.)
