Pedantic starwars nerding, This all happened a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, so none of these people are actually human.
Less pedantic starward nerding, the bothans stole the plans for Deathstar II.

I'm so glad this has been taken out of George Lucas's hands as we all know he would jump on that to make Jar Jar binks the main character, since as we all know "jar jar is the key to all of this"-Lucas

Well, if we're going to be pedantic about it ...

Anakin was explicitly referred to as a "human being" in Episode 1, during the podracing sequence.

But yeah, I'm really glad that the franchise has been taken out of Lucas' hands.

I finally saw Star Wars: the Force Awakens. I wish I could say I loved it, but I didn't. It was worth the $1.60 it cost to rent it from Redbox, but I'm glad I didn't have to cash in my Panamanian offshore account to see it at the real theater.

Is that image from Star Trek Online? If so, that's a very nice thing of them to do.

I took my favorite 10-year-old Star Wars fan to see it tonight.

Bottom-line lesson: it may be a bit ... intense ... for younger kids.

She didn't like it because:
and because

Interestingly enough, she didn't like The Force Awakens because "it was too silly"; she didn't like this one for the opposite reason. So, she has now determined that a "perfect" Star Wars movie is somewhere between the extremes of The Force Awakens and Rogue One.

There's a generational difference involved, of course.

She liked K-2SO, because he was funny. (No arguments here.)

She grew up with and prefers the Prequels. To her, the Original Trilogy is compatibly slow-paced, with unimpressive special effects. Plus, she likes that the Prequels are "funny." I would argue that the level of humor in the Prequels is pretty-much perfectly-suited to a 10-year-old's sensibilities.

Her preferences may change as she gets older.

One thing I appreciated was how Darth Vader's fighting fit with the way he was portrayed in the original trilogy while still making him formidable as hell.

I guess once you get all your limbs chopped off, you stop with the jumping all around the room and just focus on force-murdering people.

Meanwhile, Donnie Yen's character had a bit more elaborate choreography while not being over the top. I would say that he seemed quite a bit more effective than many full-fledged Jedi warriors in the prequels...

Also I agree that CGI Tarkin and Leia were a bit off. I suppose they could've done it with different actors, but it does take place within days (hours? minutes?) of the beginning of A New Hope, so they can't go based off an age difference conceit. So I understand why they did it, but... this does not seem like a sustainable solution. Either they need to avoid side stories that involve important characters from the originals (I suspect people would be more forgiving for the prequels) or they need to just bite the bullet and recast the roles.

Quoth Elizabeth: "I liked Darth Vader in the other movies, but now he's too scary."

To which I was tempted to reply: "Hell yeah he's scary -- and it's about time, too!" After all, the first rule of art is "Show, don't tell"; the other movies make a big deal about how much Vader terrifies everyone around him, but this is the first movie to legitimately portray Vader as the truly terrifying badass that he's claimed to be.

I dunno. "If this is a consular ship then where is the ambassador?" was p damn frightening. Followed closely with "I find your lack of faith... disturbing." was also high on the ohshit-o-meter.

Finally saw it yesterday. I love Darth being a badass, of course. Darth Vader was the start of my villain love, and while he's been surpassed, I will always enjoy watching him being evil.

Tarkin was pretty good visually, considering what the technology was even recently, but the voice was wrong, totally wrong. I primarily recognize people by voice, so there was no fooling me, and it didn't even seem like they were trying. They just got someone with an RP accent and figured it was good enough, although it seemed like one or two lines were actually Cushing from the original film. I didn't care as much about Leia. She was fine, but see above about villains, I care way more about Peter Cushing.
