I grew up listening to my parents listening John Prine and have been a big fan since always. Am I the only one?
Today I have been housebound so I've re-listened to my JP catalog and, in addition to straight up great songs like
Angel from Montgomery, re-discovered some lyrical win that I had forgotten about. Like
Humidity Built the Snowman (sunshine brought him down) and
Sabu Visits the Twin Cities Alone. It brought up a lot of memories, including when I was so excited to learn that one of my other American co-workers in France was also a John Prine fan. I remember us singing
Illegal Smile and
Christmas in Prison while we cooked Thanksgiving dinner for ourselves and a bunch of foreigners.
There is very little Prine on the Youtube but here is the pretty good
Picture Show from the excellent
The Missing Years:
So long story short, if you don't own any Prine, gtf on iTunes and buy some. The
Great Days Anthology is very good.
