Default Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard Thread

I grew up listening to my parents listening John Prine and have been a big fan since always. Am I the only one? :wish:

Today I have been housebound so I've re-listened to my JP catalog and, in addition to straight up great songs like Angel from Montgomery, re-discovered some lyrical win that I had forgotten about. Like Humidity Built the Snowman (sunshine brought him down) and Sabu Visits the Twin Cities Alone. It brought up a lot of memories, including when I was so excited to learn that one of my other American co-workers in France was also a John Prine fan. I remember us singing Illegal Smile and Christmas in Prison while we cooked Thanksgiving dinner for ourselves and a bunch of foreigners.

There is very little Prine on the Youtube but here is the pretty good Picture Show from the excellent The Missing Years:

So long story short, if you don't own any Prine, gtf on iTunes and buy some. The Great Days Anthology is very good.

And spot some hollow ancient eyes
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care. Say, "Hello in there, hello."

I know that is a great song because it makes me feel sadder and guiltier than pretty much any other song.

I've loved John Prine since high school.
What other guy writes a song about organ donation?
"Please don't bury me"

&feature=related
Plus "Grandpa was a carpenter" good stuff.

Heh, the short story I'm having published features a John Prine song and gave me the title, "Killing the Blues."

Love him!

Pomo pomo pomo.
Only the most poignant folk revivalist singer-songwriters can pierce my steely ironic shell to get to the softer, chewier insides.

Fuck. I knew it was bad when he was intubated. But fuck.

John Prine, Who Chronicled the Human Condition in Song, Dies at 73

I took my mom to see him in October when his tour came through. I am so glad we went.

I'm heartbroken. Today I tried to stare down a bowl of oatmeal, and the oatmeal won.
