They came first by the dozens, then the hundreds, then the thousands—as you can see if you click that tweet. They told me I was wrong. They sent me memes, infographics, screenshots of Google searches, wikipedia pages, rifle manufacturer webpages. The dumb liberal journalist strawman they had built up in their fevered imaginations had been rendered flesh, and they were there to extract their pound of it. I responded by quadrupling down on my assertion that the AR in AR-15 does, in fact, stand for “Assault Rifle.” Nothing anyone said could convince me otherwise. Rather then give them the satisfaction of correcting me, I stuck out both middle fingers, Stone Cold Steve Austin-style, and simply allowed the endless waves of Chuds to wash over me, like a baptism.

I didn't attend Saugus High School, but it's in my hometown and I know a hell of a lot of people who did. Too fuckin close to home. Literally.

I saw something a while back (wish I could remember the source) with convincing evidence that it wouldn't be too long before some ridiculous percentage of the country had a personal connection to at least one mass shooting, either by personally knowing someone or having connections to the area it occurred in. In my case, that was Parkland. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School wasn't built yet when I lived there, but it was a literal four-mile drive from my house to where they eventually built it, according to Google Maps.

Two confirmed dead now. Just awful. Of course, that doesn't even take into account the long-term casualties of the attacks via PTSD and various other illnesses years after the attacks. If I'm not mistaken, at least two people connected to Parkland (either students who survived the attack or parents of students killed in the attack) have ended their lives now.

We won't do anything, of course, because Mitch McConnell is an evil tortoise who would cause any rational, feeling human being to fail a Voight-Kampff test. That motherfucker has to be taken out of office next year, or at least the Republicans have to lose their Senate majority. Countless children's lives literally depend upon it. It sucks that we have to wait that long for anything to be done about this scourge, but realistically, that's where things stand. It's infuriating.

I got in early on that when one of TLM's best friends was at Columbine. We had just moved, and Daniel's family had just gotten him transfered there so he'd be at a better school.

It was a couple days before we found him and knew he was OK.

Sad to say, the mass shootings used to be shocking, riveting, but people have become desensitized to them - to the point of comparing # of victims and methods used - like amateurs compared to the more efficient killers. -__-

It’s not clear if the two shootings are linked yet, or what the motive of either shooter was. It’s being reported by other sources that the Pensacola shooter was a Saudi national, but the Navy itself apparently makes a habit of not releasing such info until the next of kin have been notified.

I uh, I am kind of squeamish on the subject of abortion, but I have no compunction whatsoever on highlighting the hypocrisy of caring so much about that whilst sparing not one wit of concern over people shooting one another hither, thither and yon. Governor Abbott reports the gun has been found safe and unharmed, testing is underway to make sure it can properly go back into service without any malfunctions. Gun smiths have been sent to make sure other student’s guns are functioning correctly and are worried that the lack of return fire means these guns have been abused.
